trade gorges, cyu

Option A:

Jarred Tinordi (1,082M) - P.K Subban (8M)
Niklas Hjalmarsson (5M) - Andrew MacDonald (4M)
Nathan Beaulieu (1,275M) - Mark Fayne (3M)
Davis Drewiske (0,637M)

Total: $22,994M, leaves us with $5.006M and a stud core.

Emelin is asking for way too much money, especially if i can get Hjalmarsson at 5M.
Butler and Hunwick are also good options but theyre lefties. Theyre both really solid @ 3M tho.
Fayne @ 3M is a steal for a bottom 5-6 pair, he'll be a reliable partner for Beaulieu until he gets a hang of things (and hes a RHD).

Option B:

Niklas Hjalmarsson (5M) - P.K Subban (8M)
Jonathan Ericsson (4M) - Andrew MacDonald (4M)
Nathan Beaulieu (1,275M) - Jarred Tinordi (1,082M)
Davis Drewiske (0,637M)

Total: $23,994M, gives us a more solid 1-2 pair but a less experienced 5-6 pair.
we'd also be forced to use beaulieu/tinordi as a 5-6 player for a while.. which isnt very good asset management.
Too many LHD's aswell, thats why i'd go with option A.

ill admit that i havnt seen him play in a while but according to his overall stats from last season hes actually pretty damn solid.
i dont think theyre referring to his game, he just gets injured alot and is quite small for a d-man

edit: i made this "name your top 5 most underrated d-man" thread a few days ago and someone also mentioned him, i obviously know that doesnt mean much.. but still
if your argument is that hes not solid based off of what ppl say then i can make the same argument against you, plus i have his stats to back him up

Subban - Emelin
Nygren - Tinordi
Gorges - Pateryn
Ellis - Drewiske

IMO, Beaulieu has talent no doubt but attitude will keep him off of this team.

5 million D-man - Subban
Emelin - Gorges
Tinordi - Beaulieu
Drewiske - Pateryn

First pair need someone defensively reliable that can clear the crease. Passing abilities is a plus as long as he can get the puck to Subban. Subban goes full open-ice hit and end-to-end rushes mode, the other guy stay back. Subban 1st PP and 2nd PK, UFA goes 1st PK/2nd PP

Second pair is the shutdown pair. Gorges goes 1st PK and Emelin goes on the 2nd PP/2nd PK. Gorges allow Emelin to go full Emelinator mode.

Third pair is a good mix of offense, defense and grit. Tinordi goes PK when needed and Beaulieu 1st PP.

Spare are what they are. Pateryn replace Gorges when his contract ends if he plays well enough.

Could also see Nygren going over Beaulieu/Pateryn.

So your argument is that he's solid because one random poster described him as underrated? His stats don't scream solid to me. He's 5'11, doesn't bring anything offensively, Zanon, Hejda and Wilson all logged more minutes on the PK than him so that tells me he's not great defensively.

no that was your argument, i just threw it back at you ;p. personal opinions = subjective
if we asked habs fans how gorges/moen played last year as opposed to this year the consensus answers would be completely different aswell

Safe bet to be Habs:

• PK Subban (I predict less than $8M, maybe total $52M for 7 years)
• Josh Gorges
• Jared Tinordi
• Alexei Emelin

Probably here:

• Nathan Beaulieu
• Raphael Diaz

One of these guys will emerge and grab a spot:

• Darren Dietz
• Morgan Ellis
• Greg Pateryn

One new guy:

• Trade ?????
• Mid-tier 2014 UFA (Pitkanen, Hjalmarsson, Ericsson or Girardi)

The difference between both cases is that Moen and Gorges were the worst players on a 4th overall team while Hunwick was one of the worst player on 2nd worst team in the league so already there, there's a difference in the "suckage". Also Hunwick has always been terrible while Gorges & Moen are known to be better players. The hate on those two guys on this board doesn't apply for every posters but I'm willing to bet that the majority of the Avs fan base would have other words for Hunwick than 'solid'.

5 millions UFA (hopefully someone like Orpik, Hjalmarsson or Phillips becomes available)

Total : $26,894 millions. That leaves a little over 1 million of cap room.

Subban - Tinordi

Beaulieu - Drewiske

Drewiske is already signed, that's why. Also, better have a veteran who understand his role like Drewiske as your 8th defenseman, instead of a youngster like Beaulieu who needs to play.
