If you want a guy who has regressed to #5/6 duties and is Tanker ship SS Hal Gill slow. Then he is your man.

He can play the role of PK'er crease clearer well. But I wouldn't pay him over 2m for his duties.

The team that signs him for their NHL or AHL club will be sorely disappointed. He was likely the worst player in the NHL this year.

It's going to be impossible to shelter a guy like Edler, the 'Nucks best defenseman, and if they're unable to, Murray will get eaten alive by top NHL competition. He's a bad player.

Yeah, that's not even close to being accurate.

A) Its a Doug Murray thread B) Hainsey hasn't scored in 2 years C) He was the most vocal player during the lockout.

I wouldn't mind Murray on the Oilers bottom pairing.

Just to be clear, you cannot put this player on a top pairing (assuming Edler is on the top pairing). There will be stray offensive stars that Murray will be effective against (Perry might be one, for instance), but somebody like Taylor Hall would scorch him every single shift (as long as he keeps his head up).

Also, he doesn't really do the safety vale thing well at all. If Edler took a chance and left Murray as the last guy back, good chance he gets dusted on the 2 on 1. Way it worked in Pittsburgh is that Niskanen was a safety valve for Murray. If Murray couldn't get to where he needed to be, Nisky had to go there while Murray just patrolled the crease and got into shooting lanes.

Like I said, Murray's still got some tools, but they're very, very specialized and you need to go out of your way to mask his weaknesses.

I think he will sign with the Habs. He is a fit until Emelin gets back

Wish the Sharks would have tried to re-sign him rather than waste money on Hannan ...

Nonsense.

He's an ideal defensive bruiser for a bottom pairing with the right partner.

I'd take Murray back in a split second on the Pens. He's an awesome PKer and solid 5-6 guy.

I'd dump Niskanen's salary somewhere for a draft pick and sign Murray.

The only reason this guy hasn't signed anywhere is because there's very little cap space left on teams that have the best chances to win a cup.

He skates like all 4 of his extremities are chained together. I wouldn't take him back.

Niskanen is gone with or without Murray for cap purposes...on quality I would swap Engelland out for him, but it's pretty hard to imagine Murray taking less than Engelland makes and Engelland doubles as the mandatory fighter on the team...so...yeah. That and that only further pushes Bortuzzo into the press box...the guy has to play eventually.

I'm shocked he hasn't landed somewhere. If he's used right he's a damn fine third pairing defender...you just have to use him properly. The cap going down definitely didn't help him...the best fits for him are all up against the cap and he doesn't make a lick of sense on a non-contender except as a way to get a free draft pick at the deadline.
