In their FA presser, Trotz alluded to the intent to make moves via trades. I think that's why they still have so many centers on the roster. Look for 1-2 forwards, probably at center, to be moved. If players aren't coming back in a trade, they'll settle for draft picks.

I agree. It'll be draft picks or prospects that will be coming back if I had to guess.

I'll add defensive depth to that list. As mentioned in another thread, we have very little to call upon in case of injury.

Spot on there. We really need to add a depth veteran d-man to the line-up or there could be issues at D this season. Right now it looks like we will have 2 rookies starting or playing 7th man. Along with that we will have Ellis and Bartley starting with little experience. Just check out how many NHL games our D has under their belt.

Weber - 528 games
Josi - 100 games
Klein - 356 games
Jones - 0 games
Bartley - 24 games
Ellis - 64 games
Eckholm - 3 games

We basically have 2 D-men that have some real time under their belt. Josi has just over a year but I know we all feel pretty good about him. The rest of the crew is unknown and while Jones is more than likely going to be amazing he is yet to step foot onto the ice for an NHL game.

If we had not signed Nystrom we could go after Hainsey or someone else but with the cap number being where it is we do not have a lot of room. We still need to add to this group though or our D could be in trouble.

IMO Komisarek would've been a nice pickup and he only went for 700K.

Komisarek probably factored playing time into his decision. He would get more PT with the Hurricanes than he would with us.

I love Sully to death, but I'm not convinced he has much left to give. He's certainly not a primary scoring option.

A poster on the trade board posted this, but didn't provide a link. I'm on a phone...

According to the Fourth Period, teams interested in Grabovski are: Ducks, Flames, Predators, and Blackhawks (Wings, Blues, and Lightning were interested but chose other players to fill the position).

Awful or not, there's not really a spot for a defenseman.

Locks: Weber, Josi, Klein
Very near locks: Bartley, Jones
One of whom is a likely lock: Ekholm, Ellis

Komi isn't the answer, but again, we have zero defensive depth. We're set for starters, but one injury, and we're not in a good position. Valentine the first callup?

T.J. Brennan would be my guess if he's not up already.

I think Brennan, Ekholm and Ellis are fighting for a spot, the other 2 are depth.

We didn't qualify Brennan. He signed a one-year deal with Toronto.

We have seven defensemen unless Jarvinen or Valentine comes into camp and makes the roster battle competitive.

I'd love to get Grabo, especially if it sends Spaling or Smith out.

ahhh, oh well.

I still think we have enough depth for now.

I saw this too, but without us and the Blackhawks mentioned. I saw it on mynhltraderumors.com

I doubt we get him. I forget where I saw it but there was an article on Grabo commenting about Carlysle and how much he hated him. The article was littered with profane comments Grabo was saying about Carlysle. In no way would Trotz or Poile give him a guy a shot after what he said about Toronto's head men.

true, I just don't think at the price tag we'd get him.

BTW: Perron to the Oilers for Paajarvi and a 2nd

saw on mynhltraderumors.com yesterday that Perron and Oshie were on the block and seeing this Perron trade go down confirms its a good rumor link.....

wish somehow we could get Oshie...

another possibility...

George Richards: Word at the draft was that the Panthers were shopping Tomas Fleischmann hard.

Never seen that site before, thanks for the link. Also saw on there that the Rangers are still trying to find someone to take Brad Richards albatross of a contract, any chance the Preds have an interest? Sounds crazy at first, but if you could get them to take Goose in return it may not be that bad. We still have a buyout we can use next year to get out from under that contact. Even taking on Goose the Rangers would have enough cap room left to sign Stepan and Zuccarello, and could give us some offensive punch. Not saying I want to see it happen just thought it might make some decent message board fodder.
