Gill was done when we traded him. Do people not remember how he was near solely responsible for the first 30 goals against that season? He was constantly out of position and people were simply skating past him for free 2 on 1's and 3 on 1's. He was the worst dman we'd seen in a while until Campoli came back from injury and we traded for Kaberle.

Has latendresse signed yet? Id be up to sign him on a cheap 1yr deal, pending a physical evaluation. Nog much risk yet he could be useful, perhaps.

Meszaros is a solid #3-4 guy, he just had an injury filled season last year. Usually he can play #3 minutes, move the puck well and be decent defensively.

Coburn is better, more a stay at home and more physical, but I think his price would be a lot higher.

As much as phillie has cap issues this year, next year is worse...right now they have 12.6 mil in cap space with no goalies signed, Timonen and Meszaros UFA's and Gustafsson a RFA plus Couturier and Schenn RFA's up front and Read a UFA.

They may have no choice but to move Coburn anyways.

Yeah except on PK he is a liability out there. He'd be a nice guy to have around the young players and on PK but that's not enough to use a roster spot.

Could be a solid addition at the right price...

Matt Larkin ‏@THNMattLarkin 21h Surprised to see the NHL's third-leading shot blocker, Ron Hainsey, unsigned. And no, it's not because of his role in CBA talks.

Yhea. Because why would we want a player who understand how great this city and club's history is? Who actually seek the pressure of this market?

There is no reason for that. Instead, let's go overpay someone who might be reticent to play for us.

Hollywood!

I think we may stand pat on D or make a move via trade. I think we will want to leave some room for the young guns to get some playing time.

Nygren
Ellis
Pateryn
Tinordi
Beaulieu

All these guys will need playing time in the next few years and we will have some important decisions to make next year when most of our D corps becomes ufa. If I was Bergevin I wouldn't want to sign a lengthy contract until I have a better idea of what I have going forward.

I know you are joking a bit, but it's unfair to show A SINGLE PLAY where a player has been burned to show why they are bad.

Chara isn't a horrible D just because we've seen Kostityn completely make a fool of him with feints a few times.

We don't really need a Hainsey type of D, we need a #3 type of D or even #2 once Markov leaves. That D is going to have to come via trade

I would say his role in CBA is a huge reason he isn't signed.

This and Eller's 4 goal game Hainsey was victimized often then and he's victimized quite often in every game.

As a number 5, or 6 guy he would be better, but I doubt he's looking for that type of money.

LOL

The only thing Jagr understands is $$$$$.

You really want to pay him $4m? Be my guest...I'll pass, personally.

We got the space, AFAIK. With him in our lineup, we'll have the leisure to trade someone in our top 9 if we need emergency cap relief. Plus, if it's a 1-year contract, he won't be a long-term burden for this team, and we'll still have the cap space to resign Subban and other FA next summer.

There are worst option than signing someone who is a proven competitor, gives a dimension in term of puck possession that our team lacked sorely last playoff (when Eller was downed) and proved to have great chemistry with our main centre.

I think the issue people have is that Briere was chosen over Jagr.
To be honest Bergevin has been unpredictable and inconsistent with his signings.

I hate the Briere signing, but even then, I still think he is a better signing than Jagr. I just don't get all the Jagr love. He looks slow and ineffective to me. His teams were throwing icetime and scoring situations at him all last year, and he still didn't produce much. He looks very passive out there to me. I don't think our team needs a famous passenger. I'd rather have another midget, if that midget will at least play with intensity and passion.

I would take Briere over Jagr in a heartbeat.

Jagr in Montreal at this point in his career will be a bigger distraction than Kovalev on his worst year. No thank you.
