Devils have a few extra forwards

Okay, I know there are rumors flying around that we COULD potentially sign Jagr. If that happens I think some forwards could be OTB for futures (clear roster space/cap)

If we sign Jagr we have a 4th line that could consist of any mix of

Ryan Carter (1 year left)
Steve Bernier (1 year left)
Stephen Gionta (1 year left)
Krys Barch (1 Year left)
Jacob Josefson (RFA but to be signed soon)
Mattias Tedenby (Just signed 1 year @ 600k 1 way)
Rostislav Olesz (1 year 1 million)

So, if we only use three of them and keep 2 in reserve....two have to move...I know guys like Gionta, Bernier, and Carter WILL be harder to get than the others...but just curious what you'd give. I know they all have 1 year

Devils already have too many forwards. Will likely keep 2 healthy scratches though so expect to save 5 from that list (excluding any future signings).. and two will be sent to Albany (waivers) or traded.

Carter/Bernier most definitely staying
Josefson likely staying
Tedenby/Olesz/Gionta all have decent shots
Can't see Barch making the line-up unless they want someone to dress for rivalry games

Actually, without the Jagr move (or any other signing), Josefson would be penciled in on the 3rd line so only one player would need to be waived. Still two scratches.

No one is going to give us anything more than like a 6th round for any of them. They're all waiver eligible.

Josefson and Bernier may have some value, but everyone else is "future considerations" material.

I don't want to move Carter or Bernier either way. And since Olesz who was signed literally 4 days ago I think it's safe to say he's not traded.

Would be interested in Josefson, but not sure what the asking price would be.

Off limits. You can get our Eastern Conference Finals' banners if you want though

Highest bidder gets it. (Players only)

2nd round pick at this point maybe? Not really sure im terrible with this ****. He will be an NHL player though. He's too good of a two way player not to make it in the league.

A 2nd would definitely be fair.

Devils wouldn't take a 2nd for Josefson and no team is going to offer any more than that.

Carter and Bernier are more valuable to the Devils than any other team, trading them would be relatively pointless; they are terrific fourth liners. Gionta has a 2-way deal and could be sent down, although he might get claimed on waivers. Either way he's a great spark plug and brings a lot of energy and intensity, i would prefer he stuck around as a spare forward. We just signed Olesz, so the chance of him going anywhere is also nil.

Basically one or both of Tedenby and Josefson would be in the AHL most likely; we could try to dump Barch for a 7th but keeping a tough guy on the roster isn't necessarily a bad idea.

We'd probably roll with 14 forwards, the following 12 being locks:

1) Kovalchuk
2) Zajac
3) Henrique
4) Elias
5) Ryder
6) Clowe
7) Jagr
8) Zubrus
9) Loktionov
10) Olesz
11) Carter
12) Bernier

Which would mean two spots for Barch, Tedenby, Josefson and Gionta. The fact we just re-signed Janssen to a 2-way deal perhaps makes Barch expendable.

I'd trade/waive Barch, trade Tedenby and keep Josefson and Gionta as the 13th and 14th forwards. We'd likely need to give a fair amount of rest to Jagr throughout the season; and players like Olesz, Josefson, Carter and Gionta could rotate in and out of the lineup as and when we need them. If we need a tough guy for a game, call up Janssen.

its pointless to trade any of those guys based upon what we'd get. Josefson and Tedenby were 1st round picks a few years ago and its too soon to give up on them

Carter-Gionta-Bernier is the 4th line. Not moving it.

No way. Josefson is a total bust. You aren't getting close to a 2nd round pick.

there is a good chance Gionta may not be in the lineup every night. we just have too many forwards better than him.

Josefson has played 91 games and just turned 22 years old. he is already solid defensively and will likely be on our third line this year.

but thank you for your fair and balanced analysis. I will assume your username had nothing to do with your opinion.

Once Montreal screws up in being able to sign anyone they'd probably be willing to deal a pick for Bernier.

More likely would be Gionta. He's got character and competitiveness.

I would just waive Gionta and try and acquire something, anything, for Tedenby. The kid has skills but I have absolutely no idea why we, a team that is based on solid defensive play and having a structured system, decided to pick Tedenby in the 1st round.

The kid has some wicked offensive tools but he just doesn't fit in a system like ours.

I still think Tedenby has some potential, would be nice to see him go somewhere he gets a shot.

A 3rd for Bernier to the Rangers. He's effective on the PP, right?

The value might be fair but a trade with the Rangers will never happen as long as Lou is in charge. I can't name of a time that the Devils have made a trade with quite possibly their biggest rival in the league.

umm no he's a future nhl player and is not a total bust. he has too good of a two way game to not stay in the league. he hasnt been able to get consistent time cause of injuries and the fact that we have a surplus of nhl caliber forwards. i wouldnt even trade him for a second round pick anyway would rather keep him. tedenby on the other hand.
