This is essentially arbitration without the mess.

Rangers offer 1.5 per. Hagelin asks for 3 per. They split the difference. 2 year deal.

Result would have been the same in arbitration. Except nastier.

I'd rather sign Step short-term as well unless we can get a really long term deal for cheap. I'd sign him 2 years at 3.5M or 6/7 years at 4.5M.

I think Mash would do that on a 1-way. Not sure on Falk.

I think they trade Pyatt or Boyle before the start of the season.

As on the main boards

"Yeah, but the cap was also lower when those players signed their deals. I think with the kind of cap we have, Hags' deal is akin to Dubi's rather than Callahan's. When they signed, the cap was 56.8 million. An equivalent Hagelin deal when they signed their contracts would be a tad below 2 million."

Also, Dubi wasn't arbitration eligible. That accounts for a difference.

Exactly what I expected. Glad it's done. Now get Steps and Zucc.

Fair deal with him being arb eligible.

Cant hit a home run on all of the RFA contracts, but this one is is a solid single up the middle with a big turn.

I have a feeling with the Rangers cap landscape and a few of the recent fair signings from McDonagh and Hags, Gorton will get Stepan in on decent terms as well. Question is the length...

Hags got about 250K more per year than I thought he would. The good news is that he's still a RFA after this contract, and that I don't see him getting much more of a raise from 2.25 million a season.

Stepan next.

Powe would have to be the first to go.

Step won't cost that much on a 2 year. Giroux is his best comparable, and he only got 3.125 per year over the first 2 years of his 3 year deal.

Sather's been Eff'n Stepan around since the process began. I Hope the young man signs the 2 year bridger and than bails, and comes back to haunt ole Slat's.
Sather is the most over rated GM in the game today.. Has not accomplished a thing in 25 plus year's..Now were stuck with essentialy the same POS team we had last year. Softest in the game i might add.
He should have been canned after bringing back the most overarted player in the game in Richie.. Well now at least both their ships can sail together.

as i said on the mainboard...hagelin's contract is nearly the same as dubinsky's was in 2009 in relation to the cap. hagelin was arg eligible and dubi was not.

Much rather it be Asham first. Even though he can score some goals, he was pretty much useless every where else. Powe can at least kill penalties which seems to be our biggest hole with Cally and Hags out.

I would hope so. He had 0 points in 40+ games last year. Thats difficult to do. His strength, penalty killing, isnt much of a strength.

Probably most importantly, theres a glut at center now

Stepan
Brassard
Richards
Moore
Boyle

Then they can do some deals or waive guys like Asham, Powe, Johnson, Bickel , Haley down

And there are other guys who can play on the PK. I would hope that the new coaching staff will have a PK that at least gives the threat of scoring short handed.

Let's see McDonagh got 4.8/yr Stepan will get more than 3 and both are RFA. So I'm lost on your RFA argument.

The two points I came here to post. Those who were expecting under $2MM had very unrealistic expectations. Good deal IMO.

As I have stated several times already, I am absolutely loving the Rangers offseason this year...

...except for the horrifically bad decision to keep Richards.
