If no further moves are made this is what I would love to see next season.
Beck(strong big body)- Fisher- Wilson
Stalberg- Forsberg-Hornqvist ( Been thinking about this since we got Stalberg-Swedes)
Cullen-Legwand-Smith
Hendricks-Gaustad-Nystrom
Extras-Spaling/Bourque/Clune
Weber-Josi
Klein-Jones
Ekholm-Ellis
Extra-Bartley

Rinne-Hutton/Hellberg

I think a trade or two is coming myself but for now this is it.

Cullen shouldn't be on the wing. He's solid defensively and has won 53.1% of the faceoffs he's taken over the past 5 years.

he's definitely more useful at center. struggles on the wing.

bourque won't be a scratch either..

I understand all of that but we have a stack of
centers. That is one reason I see trade(s) coming.

Fisher, Legwand and Cullen are Trotz styled centers, they'll stay at center.

Spaling, Wilson, Hendricks and Smith are the more likely choices to stay at or move to wing..

What about Gaustad? I thought Trotz was going to try Wilson at center too.

Wilson to center was for need, before Cullen. Maybe that's still in the future but I doubt it for next year.

I also think as long as Guastad is healthy, he's the 4th line center.

You can't carry Forsberg and not have him skating regular minutes; if he's not playing here he's gonna' do it in Milw.

That said, we have at least 1 too many Fs.

Did Smith get more ice time than Forsberg at the end of the season?

It was largely even, but Forsberg had slightly more overall.

4/14 - Forsberg 18:37, Smith 15:11
4/15 - Forsberg 13:10, Smith 13:25
4/19 - Forsberg 14:37, Smith 14:55
4/23 - Forsberg 15:52, Smith 13:28
4/27 - Forsberg 15:07, Smith 16:06

There's no way Forsberg is a spare forward, though. Either he plays here and Beck goes to Milwaukee, or the other way around (assuming Forsberg doesn't have to return to Sweden).

I think it was confirmed that they've moved on from Yip. I'm guessing they're trying to move Spals.

Should have just kept spaling and not signed Hendricks or even better, nystrom.

Pay more money for less talent, don't get it...

So with very little time in the system, Forsberg still had Trotz trust more, so I'd say this year, he will even more so.

These are the lines I posted earlier in the thread but thought I would add a bit by explaining why these lines should work.

Hornqvist - Fisher - Wilson

This line is our best option for the top line. You have Fisher who is as solid a 2-way forward as they get. Hornqvist is a shot machine that will hover around the net. Wilson has leanred to be harder on the puck and can play the board well.

Stalberg - Legwand - Forsberg

This line could work but I'm not sold on if Legy or Cullen would work better at center here at this point. I put Legy here because he is a mainstay on the team it seem so I think he will get the knod. I can see these wings working well together. Stalberg is big and while doesn't punish people he does use his size well. Forsberg can shoot and distribute the puck well and with the speed on this line I think it would work really well. The only worry I would have is how they would handle getting stuck on the ice against other top lines around the league.

Smith - Cullen - Bourque

Bourque and smith have worked well with each other in the past and cullen is a pretty big step up from spaling in terms of offensive generation. I can see this line doing well. The way Bourque can work the boards would be the key to this line imo. Cullen and Bourque would be good set-uo men for Smith if he can regain that confidence in his shot.

Hendricks - Gaustad - Nystrom

You don't pay this kind of money for these guys and not play them. It's that simple. This will almost be a garantee as our 4th line. They will punish people for just being on the ice with them and faceoffs won't be an issue. Even uif Goose gets pushed our of the circle Hendricks can slide in without issue of a huge drop-off.

Bench - Clune

I hope Clune stays with the team and I'm sad they signed Nystrom because
I think it means Clune will either sit a lot of be moved.

Weber - Josi

Not much to be said here. They are our best and they have earned it.

Klein - Jones

I am not sure who will play LD and who will play RD but I think this will end up being our second pairing. If the long term plan is to play Jones at RD then he should start there and move the veteran to the LD spot instead. If they want to groom Jones to play with Weber one day look for them to play him at LD with Klein on the right side.

Ellis - Bartley

This is our best option on our 3rd line. Ekholm may be better suited to play with ellis because his size offsets that just a bit but the experience difference between him and Bartley is just to great. I see Bartley starting out and Ekholm maybe moving into that spot down the road.
Ekholm

Rinne
Hutton

We know who the goalies will be and the back-up is really an unknown but Mitch will pick the best one to play 8-12 games next season and that is good enough for me.

I would honestly say they just wanted to get a good look at him without overplaying him. I wouldn't say there was more or less trust from Trotz. We were pretty much tanking it at that point and were playing an AHL team for the most part anyways.

some of you are crazy saying Stalberg is gonna be on the 3rd line. What do some of y'all not understand about the reasoning behind his signing. Its to give him the opportunity to be that guy for us. 1st and 2nd line minutes, nothing less.

And also it is my feeling that We are very high on Forsberg. No Milwaukee for him.

I agree. I would like to see a GB/Cullen/VS 2nd line personally.

Forsberg will be with the Preds unless he has some kind of massive regression in training camp. Trotz specifically pointed to him and Jones having that "it" quality.

I agree. A lot of the hype during this offseason is (deservedly) going towards Jones, but Trotz and company always manage to mention Forsberg in the same breath as having ridiculous potential. It's just a snippet, but look at how he fakes out Datsyuk in his first NHL game.

Not bad for an 18 year old. I know a lot of the hype from the 2012 draft has cooled over the year, and he did fall to 11th - but he was regarded as the number 1 European skater that year, with many pegging him to go within the top 5 - several even expected top 3. TONS of people are still questioning his slide in the draft and you won't find many that think Washington "won" in the trade for Erat. Simply put, many of us were wanting MacKinnon/Drouin/Barkov this year. Nothing wrong with that. However, Filip is a similar caliber prospect and the sky is the limit for him. I still would like the Predators to ice a more proven, consistent top-line, but it wouldn't shock me at all if Forsberg plays much better than expected during the 2013 season, especially in the second half.

I am in the group that says FF VS will be in the top 2 lines. Not sure why people are putting them lower.

I would guess the opening line-up would look something like:

Stalberg - Cullen - Wilson
Bourque - Fisher - Hornqvist
Smith - Legwand - Forsberg
Hendricks - Gaustad - Nystrom

Weber - Josi
Klein - Jones
Bartley - Ellis

Rinne

To bad a goal wasn't scored on that play. Hard not to notice the guy infront of the net with no one around him.
