A tad higher than I expected, but I still like it. 2 more to go.
Stepan, 6 years at 4.25M per.

Sather is the most over rated GM in the game today.. Has not accomplished a thing in 25 plus year's..Now were stuck with essentialy the same POS team we had last year. Softest in the game i might add.
He should have been canned after bringing back the most overarted player in the game in Richie.. Well now at least both their ships can sail together.
Seriously? How has he been screwing Stepan around? It's 5 days since free agency started and Stepan isn't the only player he has to sign. Never mind that Gorton is the one actually negotiating the contracts. Never mind that if Stepan accepts a 2 year bridge deal, he'll still be an RFA when it ends and won't be going anywhere.

I'm not one to defend Sather, but you are completely off the reservation here.

Hagelin will be a group II at the end of this contract. $2.4M will be his QO. Callahan was a group II with arb rights in 2009. He had 30 goals in his career. Coming off a 20 goal year. He got 2 years/$4.6M. Hagelin had 14 goals in 64 games in 11-12. He had 10 goals in 2013 in 48 games. Pro-rate that over 82 games. 17 goals. Hagelin also played with a bad shoulder in 2013. He got injured a shoulder playing in Sweden during the lockout.

Callahan and Hagelin played with one arm for most of the season.

Quote:
With the Rangers signing Carl Hagelin to a deal that has a cap hit of $2.5 million, Cap Geek says that the Rangers have $4.3 million in cap space.

The team still needs to sign Derek Stepan, Mats Zuccarello and Justin Falk.

Cap Geek’s projection of $4.3 million includes Darroll Powe and Arron Asham while not including JT Miller.

The Rangers, during the summer are allowed, to go 10% over the upper limit of $64.3 million. The Rangers need to be below the 64.3 million upper limit by the last day of their training camp.

Subtracting Powe ($1.06 million) and Asham ($1 million) while adding JT Miller ($1.24 million) gives the Rangers $5,43 million, according to the Cap Geek cap calculator.

Without Miller, Powe and Asham, the Rangers have $6.1 million in cap space. Because Powe and Asham have salaries greater than $925,000 they will still have a cap charge if sent to the minors. Asham will have a $75,000 cap charge and Powe will have a $141,666 cap charge.

Also important to note that Johnson is listed on the roster on defense too. Don't see the Rangers carrying 8 D after they sign Falk so send him down and you have another 600K to play with.

rangers shouldn't have any trouble getting everyone signed, they still have almost $11 mill in cap space under the summer cap and that's including Powe and Asham. Callahan and Hagelin are also likely to start the year on IR which gives the team some flexibility in terms of replacing them during that period.

Also, trades

2 down 1 to go. Little over paid imo. Would lave preferred $1.75-$1.95 range.

Where in the world did I mention Stepan getting less than 3M? Will you please read before you respond? I have no idea what you are even getting at.

If you place them on LTIR, you could replace their salaries while they're on it but they have to be on for 10 games and 24 days which I doubt they will be. If neither is ready to go, they'll have to carry both salaries and call someone up to play forward. This is what I got which is barely cap compliant.

Hagelin got slightly overpaid partly because of the Rangers roster deficiencies. He is wildly inconsistent offensively -- he had just 3 goals in his last 29 games last season, playing primarily with Stepan. But hey, hes a top 6 winger on the Rangers so he'll get paid as such. He's this teams best LW'er, which is sorta scary.

Looks like a pretty fair contract for both sides, good signing.

What line will he be on by the way?

Eh, he's a 3rd line winger pushed into a top 6 role due to lack of depth. Ideally, he's a 3rd line player.

Eh, I'd hardly consider $2.25M a top-six winger salary. He's a nice piece to have who can fit in a variety of roles. You'd have to assume the shoulder injury hurt his ability to score.

It really depends. He could be on any of the top three lines because he's so versatile.

good question. He's very versatile and can slot in on any line, but when he played with Nash and Stepan he was absolute gold. So you'd figure that's the line he'd be on.

yeah wasn't he on a 10 game point per game streak at the beginning of the season? he seemed to do extremely well then... had no idea he injured the shoulder so early too
