This makes the Iginla trade sting even more. We were -this- close to having D'Agostini, D'Agostino, and Agostino in the organization. Dammmmmnnnnnniiiiiittttttt.

But yeah, I'll take that for some bottom-6 filler.

Matt D'Agostini
Nick D'Agostino
Ken Agostino

would've had the Agostin market cornered if not for the Iggy trade.

edit: TB beat me to it. pretty decent signing, imo - didn't realize he'd been so productive in STL.

He put up really good numbers in STL, but was buried in their forward depth chart, plus never really got a chance after getting injured.

I think this is an excellent signing. He can fit in anywhere, and at least fills one of the vacated third line spots.

D'Agostini sucked in Montreal and had an okay season in St-Louis a couple of years ago, hopefully he can be good here. Anyway, for 550k, it isn't much of a risk. Good addition.

So, if he is indeed a TK replacement, that leaves us with:

Kunitz - Crosby - Dupuis
Bennett - Malkin - Neal
Jokinen - Sutter - D'Agostini
Glass - Vitale - Adams

Scuderi - Letang
Orpik - Martin
Desprès - Niskanen

Fleury
Vokoun

Don't really like the fourth line, but I can live with that.

Absolutely nothing to complain about at that price. Inconsistent and coming off a bad year, but he's capable of being a Tyler Kennedy clone and he's coming in at nearly $2 million less.

The thing is taht our bottom 6 lacked grit and size. D´agostini brings nothing of that kind.

This is basically Kennedy, but a little more inconsistent. I mean, either way, he's only making $550K. Small, speedy winger that likes to shoot and had one good season.

My thoughts exactly. We can also now have 12 NHL forwards, 7 D, and 2 goalies without being over the cap. That should give Shero some flexibility in managing any cap space related trades.

Not really the ideal fit for the bottom six, IMO... but it's tough to complain at that price. He's sort of been all over the map, production-wise, over his short career. Really bad last season... but he might be able to show a little more, here. Pretty decent little signing, I think.

He's a bit more skilled than TK. But doesn't win board battles and is pretty useless in a bottom six role.

Hopefully the idea is that you plug him with Malkin or Sid when injuries occur.

He's a poor man's Michael Ryder. You won't even know he's on the team until he scores 4 goals in two games (close to the net-snapshot kind of goals) and then going back into the shadows.
He will have pretty good numbers at the end of the season though, especially on an offensive team.

I'd take D'Agostini over TK every time, before even considering contracts.

If he hadn't been buried in the depth chart/got injured he could have had a 60-70 pt season in STL by now.

Don´t have a problem with that signing. We need affordable options for the 3rd or 4th line. If I remember correctly, he has decent speed.

For that price I don´t think you can go wrong, thats a contract that a player like Glass should get, people (like me) would complain a lot less if he was signed for that kind of money. ;-)

Guys like D´Agostino, Ebbett, Conner, will battle it out for a spot on the roster, but a hole on the 3rd line remains IMO.

I'm not worried about the price as much as the fact that the guy isn't at all what we need in the bottom 6. We're too easy to play against, and are running out of roster spots to add grit and edge.

This signing doesn't make much sense to me, rather use the 550k and playing time elsewhere.

So this likely means another year of Jeffrey not getting a shot. I think it's time to Letestu him.

He can be a decent temporary TOP 6 replacement in case of injury though.

I agree with the Kennedy comparison, but TK has more energy than D'Ago but the latter may have a better finishing touch.

at one time he had more value that TK on hfboards, so in that respect it's a good deal. he appears to be very good at drawing penalties based on the stats.

D'Agostini is getting a spot over Ebbett and Conner. Those guys are here for AHL depth/call up purposes.

Not even close, no offense to you.

If I had to choose between the two, I'd take Kennedy, even at the higher salary. When Kennedy is not producing, he's at least a pain in the ass to play against, you notice him on the ice, he has a motor. D'agostini outside of scoring goals is just flat out invisible and I'm not exaggerating (okay maybe a little). Also, no way he would have had a 60-70 point season in St.Louis, that's just a gross exaggeration (that would make D'agostini their leading scorer, he's not that good).

D'agostini is a sniper who, the over-whelming majority of the time, has trouble making his own scoring chances. Every once in a while you'll see flashes of a top 6 player, he'll skate well, dangle well, pass well, but then will disappear for games on end.

If he was an in-the-closet 60 point player teams would be lining up to acquire him. Instead he got signed at what league minimum 5 days after FA opened?

Don't expect much and you'll be satisfied. If you expect a consistent top 6 winger that can score 60 points, you'll probably be disappointed.

That being said, if there's one place D'agostini's talent can be exploited...it's Pittsburgh. He's about as low risk, potential high reward as yo can get. Even so, if I had the option between Kennedy and D'agostini right now, I'd take Kennedy on the habs 10 times out of 10.
