I'm sorry if someone posted this in this thread, although I did try to search.

I think we talked about Josh's dad running the hockey school, but in this case, when you look at the mission of the school, and the way it looks like Morrissey plays defense, I think talking about the mission of this school is pretty relevant. I think it's a pretty good glimpse at the type of player Morrissey may become.

"The Defence position in hockey is evolving very quickly. The new NHL rules, which allow much less obstruction, are filtering down to minor hockey levels. This evolution of the rules has brought about a change to the model of the “defence” player. The stereotypical big, strong, physical player with somewhat less skating ability, speed and agility than typical forwards is being replaced with an athlete still sharing the traits of strength and physical play, but who is now relied upon to match speed with attacking forwards, quarterback the team attack and participate to a far greater extent in the rush and offensive zone play.

Learning the art of playing defence is a career long challenge. It is the most difficult position in hockey to master both physically and mentally. The greatest defence players are skilled skaters, masterful passers, expert play makers and gritty competitors.

D-Rules Central is a web site for Players, Goaltenders, Coaches, Parents and hockey enthusiasts in general. It is dedicated to be the absolute best site specializing in everything related to playing defence in hockey. Lessons address specific, on-ice game situations. Video of lesson sessions and on-ice drill execution provide the coach and player with detailed information and on-ice accuracy. The great players are those who develop the detail in their games, make controlled decisions on-ice and make those around them better. D-Rules is dedicated to those goals.

The on-line forum allows coaches, players, parents and enthusiasts to share ideas. The D-Rules community offers synergy with unlimited potential."

I think it's interesting anyway. We're getting a kid who is most likely a good skating, puck possession, join the rush kind of player, who's dad is running a camp that is trying to teach just that.

Thanks for posting this, Huff.

I think Chevy agrees with this philosophy, as well, since he "likes how Josh plays the game", was "ecstatic" when drafting Trouba, felt Bogo was "the type of player you build a D corps around", "hadn't seriously considered" trading Buff, and proceeded to re-sign Toby to a 5 yr extension and Clitty to a 3 yr extension.

He definitely seems to like dmen that can skate, move the puck, and join the rush. Though, guys that bring all that AND some physicality in their own zone, really seem to warm his heart.

Flyers posted a behind the scenes video. In it you can see their draft board.

Off of it some Philadelphia posters enhanced the image and managed to speculate on which players were where.

Seems that Flyers had Morrissey at #11.

Just saying.

Based on how awful they have been at drafting D men, perhaps this is bad news.

It's ok, truck. They took a much bigger risk, IMO, with Morin at 11.

Morrissey can now just let his talent develop and not worry about being a Philly dman bust.

Ah, but if they're bad at drafting d-men, then obviously we got the right one since they selected the wrong one.

Maritime logic, or something like that.

Didn't Bobby Clark mention some positive things about Morrissey in and around the draft?

Bumped for some light reading....this was moments after we drafted this somewhat unknown prospect...only good if you go back to page 1 where as usual posters were scambling for the ledge of the building to jump

Still early but looks like yet another savvy draft choice.

Same thing with Trouba too and Schiefele and probably every other 1st round pick for the rest of time. Definitely fun to look back on and see how people's opinions change with time.

I went back to look at Trouba's too. Everyone calling for Grigs or Forsberg, now it's more like:

Our rookie's first name is Jacob, spelt J-E-S-U-S.

I was never down on the Trouba pick, even when Forsberg fell to us. Build from the back end out. We got arguably the 2nd best pick that draft.

Okay, maybe not EVERYONE was upset, but initially the pitchforks were out for many.

True.

From what I recall which may be wrong, Trouba was actually expected to go around where he did, perhaps higher, it was the fact that Forsberg was expected to go much higher still, and we passed on him, that everyone was livid about.

Either way, I'd take trouba 10 times out of 10 in a redraft, I think.

There was someone who was pretty stoked when we picked Trouba... Amid all the doom and gloom that wise poster said this. It really resonated with me...

EDIT: Reading that thread is one of my favourite pass times. Its comedic gold.

By now people should just trust Chevy and the scouts to do their job at the draft table. They have infinitely more knowledge then you do watching TSN's draft show, reading a mag or 2 and scanning the prospects board over your morning coffee. Man I hate the words "consensus pick" and "off the board". Absolutely meaningless concepts in my books.

this is exactly what I meant in the "Scheifele pick" thread. How in hell do people actually really believe that they know better than Chevy and co? I don't know it's just weird to think like that. Also, this only exists in NA-drafting AFAIK.
