Maybe it's irrelevant because it was so long ago, but Ruutu hasn't played 80% of career games unless you ignore 04-05 when he missed the entire year with a shoulder injury as well as the 25 games he missed with a season-ending knee injury in his final season in Finland.

Five years seems like a good representative horizon to me.

79/82, 54/82, 82/82 (YARLY!), 72/82, 17/48.

I will back off of my assertion that there's no such thing as injury-prone (largely because of Pitkanen, and the more I think on it, the more happy I'd be to see him traded for a more rugged version of himself, if such exists.) I will reiterate my opinion that Ruutu does not fall into that category nearly to the degree that people contend.

Hockey and all professional sports is a "What have you done for me lately" world. Ruutu missed a huge chunk of last season, therefore his injury aura is magnified.

Not saying it is justified or right, but its true.

I would rather have a player that plays 80% of the games and misses 20% due to injuries, then a player that plays 20% of the games and is a healthy scratch the other 80%

The 20% guy at 100% health always sucks. At least the 80% guy can play.

But who is arguing that Ruutu should be replaced with a guy who is healthy scratched 80% of the time? Not even Westgarth is scratched that much

If you trade Skinner now while his value is decent and then he turns into the player we saw in hios rookie year but better you go "what were we thinking?!?"

If you wait and he continues to get hurt and then he becomes untradeable you go "why didn't we pull the plug?"

There just isn't a good answer.

IMHO, it's waaaaaaaaaaaay too early to pull the plug on Skinner and the most tradeable player of value in the orginzation is Ruutu and it's not even close.

Not really sure if Ruutu is a player of value right now.. could be wrong. But I definitely agree with you: it's WAY too early to pull the plug on Skinner.

Jaromir Jagr: poor talent evaluator.

Well, there we go.

Guess it's a matter of moving salary out at this point.

On to the next step in the process: JR moves Skinner out to clear room.

And then the step after that: Jagr signs with Philly.

Well seems like both sides are still weighing their options. JR made it sound like Jagr is in as long as he can move salary and Svoboda made it sound like Jagr still hasn't decided.

For people wondering about UFA Jaromir Jagr, I have been told by team sources that the #Canes are not actively pursuing Jagr at this time.

Though "actively pursuing" and "being on a list" aren't the same thing. Waiting on an answer from Jagr could be considered "not actively pursuing".

ok so does that mean that we WERE pursuing him, and he was the one JR was talking about, but we backed off? Or does that mean that the guy JR was talking about was never Jagr......guess we'll see

Any reason for the past tense?

That gives context to MM's tweet. We were in on Jagr, and now we aren't. Whether he decided not to in the end, or we simply couldn't move the salary.

@chrisefaw Not actively pursuing doesn't mean not interested. Just to spell it out. If his price drops, I'm sure the team will listen.

JR was ridiculously more optimistic about a signing yesterday, and that's straight from the horses mouth there. If Jagr isn't in the plans, then it's another target. Though I wouldn't get too caught up in what Mike thinks. I don't even follow the guy on twitter, and I follow a squirrel that speaks only in chittering noises.

I would still go for trading Pitkanen for conditional draft picks and pick up Hainsey.

Then you could see it as, Pitkanen + McBain + 2nd for Sekera + Hainsey + Cond Pick which is a hell of a trade off.

Faulk / Sekera
Hainsey / Gleason
Harrison / Komisarek
Murphy

Huge turn around in Defense for us.

If that's true, "big" was false advertising.
