I suspect this move is more his agent trying to protect his negotiating power then it is White thinking he deserves a big raise.

Are you serious? This is Montreal. Home of the classy and traditional fan-base, who demand (and expect) a cup every year. Who call 911 to report crimes on the ice. Who lambaste Laraque for sending invitations, but put White on the stake for going coo coo when another team is taking liberties with our players.

In other words, we live up to our stereotype(s);

Saw this coming, he's been really unlucky these past couple of seasons, must be frustrating not being able to showcase himself properly.

They treated him like s@@@ last year. Dollars to donuts he was only doing what he was asked to do - play with fire, stick up for teammates, etc. Someone high up got spooked by it, and the gavel fell.

Except during development camps...which, of course, wasn't his strength, as I've stated numerous times.

I could care less, takes stupid penalties at key times, doesn't really do that much out there to begin with. I hope he leaves and Dumont takes his place.

It's his right as a player to go to arbitration to get his worth.

I think we need him in the line-up and we are a better team when he is.

I still partly blame those losses on our defence/PK. Singling White out in the media was a cop out. Those penalties were dumb still, but it was just as dumb to completely blame White for those losses. Therrien is not a bad coach, but sometimes he just sounds/looks like an angry fan,

Jesus. Some people are ridiculous. Arbitration doesn't mean they are a problem. It's their right. White probably thinks he's worth more than the $750K qualifying offer - and he's probably right. We already know Bergevin is a penny pincher - so I expect arbitration many times in the next few years.

Probably what he's asking for. Maybe a bit more. His QO is just over $750K. No reason why he shouldn't be paid closer to what Parros is going to get from us.

Was his last contract 2-way or 1-way?

Replace with what? Easier said than done. Of course, if you're talking replacing him by an Halpern, then yes. But that's not what we need...

Do you remember the goals Price let in right after that?

I honestly don't understand why people under evaluate White..

White plays an important role in this team... I think it's simply a question of Therrien not liking him.

He can play, hit, fight.
1.25 milion per year 1-way is a fine deal

So, his QO had to be 1-way.

1.25 M would make sense if he were on the verge of UFA...

Thanks your right... but still regardless we had a 4-2 lead Buffalo tied with a few seconds remaining it's not logic to entirely blame the game on White.

Dude, I never blamed the whole game on him, but he does have brainfarts too often and takes dumb penalties at inopportune times...luv his battle, but he needs a babysitter on the line with him...

Did not read the thread, but if White thinks he can get 50-100K more going into arbitration this makes a difference in his bank account. White will likely never sign contracts of 2+ millions, hell he might never sign contracts of 1+ millions. He might not even be playing in the NHL in 3-4 years from now so that little extra 50-100K makes a big difference for him.

White deserves better than the QO, hope he gets a bump and has a great season. He's young, gritty and sticks up for teammates, just the sort of player we need.
