Well, Sergei wore 74, so equally as bad I guess.

Seems like a good sign for a rookie. Ironic Zid signed a 1 year with NJ today and you guys were just talking about him.

Is ~3M average for 1st rounders?

Check out the careers of the last 3 to win it not exactly a ringing endorsement of the award for defensemen

Max contract is $925k. The bonuses could have been higher.

Question for those in the know. Why does Capgeek show 3.225M for Seth but the cap hit only went down around 1M? I thought that it was said that bonuses counted towards the cap.

Did maybe a third of those guys never even suit up? I'm no super-fan, but I have zero recollection of them in games.

For example: pretty sure Patrick Leahy is a senator from Vermont. Nice try, guys.

That list is way outdated, doesn't list the majority of the team, or even last year's team for that matter.

Only signing bonuses count against the cap. Performance bonuses don't get counted until they are earned. Jones has 925,000 salary plus the 92,500 signing bonus so the cap hit is only 1.17M. Doubtful he will get all his performance bonuses in his rookie year. If he does we've found ourselves another Shea Weber.

I can remember seeing the overwhelming majority of those players in Preds colors (there are about half a dozen I don't recall at all). Most of them were from the early expansion years, when the best free agents the club could sign were mid-level European guys.

As for Pat Leahy, it's not the senator, and he played one game for us in 2007.

Unfortunately, I fear the Jones signing could be the only one of the summer where the money is reasonable.

The team has to remain aware of all potential performance bonuses. There is a 7.5% bonus cushion that does not count against the cap during the season which we have not exceeded yet ... but any potential bonus amounts above that cushion do count during the season and any realized bonuses that push the team above the cap get removed from the next season's cap amount (see Chicago 2010). I don't see us exceeding the cap with potential bonuses just to be on the safe side.

These are the requirements for individual bonuses in the current CBA.

Defensemen
(i) Ice time (aggregate and/or per Game). Player must be among top four (4) defensemen on the Club (minimum 42 Regular Season Games played by Player and comparison group). (Note: an Entry Level SPC may contain bonuses for both aggregate and per Game ice time; however, the maximum aggregate amount the Player may receive on account of the ice time category is $212,500.)
(ii) Goals: 10 Goal Minimum
(iii) Assists: 25 Assist Minimum
(iv) Points: 40 Point Minimum
(v) Points Per Game: .49 Points Per Game Minimum (minimum 42 Regular Season Games played)
(vi) Plus-Minus Rating: Among top three (3) defensemen on the Club (minimum 42 Regular Season Games played by Player and comparison group).
(vii) Blocked Shots: Among top two (2) defensemen on the Club (minimum 42 Regular Season Games played by Player and comparison group).
(viii) End-of-Season NHL All-Rookie Team
(ix) NHL All-Star Game (selected to play or plays)
(x) NHL All-Star Game MVP

Personally, I hope Seth reaches all of those minimums. Highly doubtful, but it would be amazing if he did.
