What would you give for Eminger?

Fortunately the Caps have no interest in trading Eminger as he is part of their future and will be a core dman. He will be putting it all together soon.

If anything the Caps could trade a forward prospect like Fehr or Fleischman, but not a young dman.

Not sure...just putting it out there. Hopefully no trade goes one with us, but you never know, stranger things have happened.

Here's hoping, but excluding the 10-15 game stretch at the beginning of last season where he saw the light at the end of the tunnel, he has not progressed in the LEAST.

In fantasy hockey I am not sure how much Sutherby is worth. In the real world where players have personalities and there are personal relationships in building a team, there is no realistic chance that the Capitals would trade Sutherby. None at all.

txpd is right. There is nothing other teams would be willing to give to make it worth trading Sutherby.

Not to say he is untradeable, but with the value Washington Organization puts on him....it would take gross overpayment to get him, which I don't see happening.

I originally posted this in the 'Dismantling the Coyotes...' thread (though I've altered Washington's side). Washington has plenty of cap room and Phoenix may be looking to shake things up and start a mini-rebuild. I'm a Caps fan, so feedback from Phoenix fans (say that five times fast) would be appreciated.

Derek Morris for Steve Eminger and a 4th rounder.

Phoenix gets a defenseman five years younger than Morris and unloads three million+ in salary this year. (Eminger is an RFA next year, while Morris is signed @ 3.9M for two more years.)

The Caps in Morris get a d-man capable of playing minutes in all situations. The only knocks being Morris' injury history and his fat contract. I'm not sure GMGM would take on that kind of money, all things considered. Maybe, maybe not.

As for Sutherby...he's really improved in the past two years. This year in particular, he's been terrific on the PK. He's really maturing into a defensive specialist that plays with heart every single night. He's among the Caps' core players, at this point.

On Samsonov, I'd be intrigued by the idea of him in a Caps jersey if he can play RW. He has a vision and awareness of fellow teammates that is lacking on the Caps' PP at times. He and Semin on the second line would be pretty sweet to watch together.

Agreed. Sutherby has all the intangibles you want, can be a policeman, a great leader, a strong defender, a willing hitter, and he has shown some scoring touch. Not to mention that McPhee picked him and loves his game.

To get Sutherby away from the Caps?
Every player on your team under 25, and your first round pick for the next 20 years.

Sutherby is pretty much considered untouchable by the organization.

You're from a WHL city and wouldn't want Mike Green?

Not that Green (or likely Eminger for that matter) is available, but he shouldn't be a secret to those in the WHL. Kid's going to be a really good one. Incredible learning curve so far.

Marc-Andre Bergeron's value is largely based on his good contract, so I'm thinking he'd have a lot more value to a team that was pushing the cap limits.

Also, if the Oilers make a deal for a defenceman I think they will target someone who is a little further on in their development than Eminger. They need someone who can play big minutes and make an impact now.

If Eminger gets traded I think it will likely be to a team that needs to dump salary OR it will be a one-for-one swap of young players who are struggling.
