I don't think Laughton is going to be playing in the NHL this year. I think he slides another year in juniors and they either re-sign Gagne, sign someone else, or let McGinn or one of the other younger guys earn the spot. My preference is Gagne, but I wouldn't be too disappointed if McGinn makes it.

Say they sign Gagne to the 2 mil deal. That puts us at around 4 mil over the cap. With Pronger off we get around 900k space. That isnt good once injuries start to happen. Gotta be careful going into a season where injuries are bound to happen and we can not bring people up easily. Now you get rid of Mez, then it's easy but for the time being we have not.

I'll be shocked if Laughton isn't on the team. He's progressed very quickly.

Hartnell,Giroux,Voracek
Schenn,Lecavalier,Simmonds
Laughton,Couturier,Read
Talbot,Hall,Rinaldo

Timonen,Schenn
Streit,Coburn
Gustafsson,Grossman

Two things... I don't thing it's a set thing that laughton is with us come game one. I think without any changes to this roster (mez is gone) I could see straka making this roster. With that being said i don't want to see laughton or straka put in 4th line situation. These are two guys that don't project or have skill sets suited for a 4th line IMO. If straka makes the team it wouldn't at all shock me to see him paired with giroux and voracek (could be a spark plug). I just look at this roster right now and i don't see hartnell/lecavalier/voracek/giorux/simmonds/schenn as anything but top two line options... that leaves the 3rd and 4th line with plenty of depth but also players like couturier and read who might potentially be hindered by minutes/production by slotting them in lower minute/defensive roles... I have a feeling a big trade will be made due to this. I really would've liked to grab tj galliardi for that third line role... a 4th round pick

Are you suggesting...

Laughton - Giroux - Voracek
Hartnell - Lecavalier - Read
Schenn - Couturier - Simmonds

?

If any of the young guys are going to be on Giroux's wing, it's going to be Schenn. Putting Laughton there would only waste Giroux's ability.

No Straka.

I don't think it would happen this year, maybe next.

after reading Vinny's interview I think the lines will look like this early on...

Hartnell - Giroux- Vinny
Read - Schenn - Voracek
Gagne -Coots - Simmonds
Talbot/Hall - Laughton/Hall - Rinaldo
Rosehill

Talbot could be used in a trade to free up space with Gagne replacing him the PK and Vinny being another center and bringing in more leadership.

Hartnell - Giroux - Voracek
Schenn - Lecavalier - Simmonds
Laughton - Couturier - Read
Talbot - Hall - Rinaldo
Rosehill

Timonen - Schenn
Streit - Coburn
Gustafsson - Grossmann
Gervais

Mason
Emery

I would start out with that for now.

Why strap Coots with a rookie playing out of position for the first time?

If they think Laughton's future is on a wing then have him spend another season in the OHL playing on the wing instead of learning on the fly in the NHL?

Give Coots a chance to play with some NHL ready players.

It's easier to transition from the center spot to the wing than vice-versa. Richards & Giroux started out as wingers here.

I rather go with the unknown over the known limited offense Talbot or Gagne would bring.

Of course once training camps & preseason come we'll have a better sense of where players stand.

Syvret?

Morin, Hagg, & Gostibehere don't have contracts currently so they won't be playing preseson games as of now. Gostisbehere definitely won't be receiving one because he would lose his NCAA eligibility but the other two can receive them but I still don't see it happening when they're not in the plans for this year.

Maybe, but Homer said, when they introduced the new aqcuisitions, he feels comfortable with Giroux, Vinny and Coots down the middle for a very strong Center setup.

Me thinks, Schenn will start the season on LW.

Why exactly do they have to use two different teams?

Many of you seem to be comfortable to put Laughton at the wing.

But Homer made clear that one of his off-season plans is to gett bigger on the wings. Don't know how it fits together.
