Karlsson, Methot, Cowen, Wiercioch, Ceci is what I'm hoping the organization sees as the core of our D. It might be between Wiercioch and Ceci for a spot.

Chicago has Keith, Seabrook, Hjalmarsson, Leddy, Oduya, for reference.

Would you rather have Bobby Ryan or David Perron?

even with that disappointing play-offs, i was looking forward to this season. obviously he got injured and missed a lot of time. when he cam back from injury...he was a beast in those few regular season games. i don't what other people saw, because they don't bring it up in defense of him, but his seven games this past season were high end defense and nastiness. then he had another disappoint playoffs. i guess the adrenaline wore off.

what i'm saying is, i think there's something that he's being told to do, or something that changes in his mindset when he's in the playoffs. maybe he's trying to hard to contribute. maybe he's being told to hit more, maybe he's thinking too much. if he comes back next season and plays like he did in his seven games, i think everyone will be extremely happy. he needs to be told to just do his thing in the playoffs though. he needs to be told not to try to be the hero.

you're basically disappointed with a player because in his first year in the nhl, he wasn't ready for the intensity, speed changes, and style changes of the playoffs as a rookie. as you said, you're writing this past playoffs off, so that is why you're down on him. give him time. defensemen take longer to develop. there is no reason to start writing him off after the flashes of brilliance he's shown.
Hoping everyone is right, cause when he lays out a huge hit...life is good, I hope he can make the adjustment to the NHL and have a wicked season proving me wrong. Hard to be optimistic though, I find too many people get excited about possibilities and only think about the best case scenario ala Latendresse/Filatov/Stone scoring 30 goals on Spezza's Wing. Statisically he'll probably bank around 30 points next year if he's healthy, just hope he's stopping scoring chances here and there.

You seriously have to even ask that? Ridiculous. The value of each player in their respective trades alone should have told you how ridiculous a question it is.

Lmao, you're not. In 6 seasons Ryan has scored 30 goals 4 times. Perron hasn't done it once. Ryan has more grit, is bigger and isn't injury prone like Perron. Ryan also has almost 100 more points in 30 more games.

A better way of saying it would be:

Would u rather Ryan or Perron+Noesen+1st. Silfverberg should have been enough to land Perron.

This was my follow up question. I'd personally take Ryan over Perron + Noesen + 1st... but then again, I wouldn't be surprised if Silf went beast next season.

Exactly. I wouldn't be content giving up Silfverberg if I never got a star caliber player back. Perron is good but not Ryan good and we need a Ryan good type player.

I would have probably liked Silfverberg for Perron straight up.

Seabrook, Brent $5,800,000 3yr 35
Keith, Duncan $5,538,462 10 yr 45
Hjalmarsson, N. $3,500,000 1 yr 20
Oduya, Johnny $3,383,333 2 yr 25
Leddy, Nick $2,700,000 2 yr 35
Rozsival, Michal $2,200,000 1 yr 25
Brookbank $1,250,000 1 yr 2

Total: $24,371,795 187

Karlsson $6,500,000 6 yr 75
Methot $3,000,000 2 yr 20
Phillps $3,083,333 1 yr 25
Gryba $582,500 1 yr 5
Corvo $900,000 1 yr 20
Cowen $??????? I guess $2,250,000 2 yr 20
Wiercioch $?????? I guess $1,650,000 2 yr 30

Total: $17,945,833 195

Remember that Chicago and Ottawa had the two lowest goals against in the NHL last season.

I am predicting that Ottawa's 7 defencemen OUTSCORE the monster awesome defence of Chicago next season!!!!

Ottawa 102 points from defencemen LAST season. Chicago had 100 points from their defencemen last season. Ottawa outscored the defence of Chicago.... with Karlsson scoring only 14 points.

Many Ottawa fans idiotically think Phillips is a barely hanging on bottom pair defenceman or something, when he is a 25 point quite effective mid pairing D-Man.

Our defence was already stacked and now we get Corvo to play some PP and a little bit else. He is going to rip some point shots for $900K!

This teams defence stacks up decently with probably the deepest defence core in the NHL.... that of the Stanley Cup Champs. I am not saying that Ottawa's defence is as good as Chicago's. I am saying that Ottawa's defence outscored them with Karlsson only playing a third of a season. Ottawa manged to let in the 2nd fewest goals in the NHL. The defence had to have something to do with it.

Several Sens posters were in another thread the other day claiming Ottawa's defence is among the worst in the NHL. Craziness!

I think we could have easily afforded Perron AND Ryan without giving up too much. MPS + 2nd seems pretty cheap IMO. Having both in our top 9 would have made us a very dangerous team.

Obviously if you're picking one you take Ryan every time regardless of price.

I absolutely love how David Perron is being compared to Bobby Ryan.

Ryan is one of the top wingers in the NHL, Perron is a second liner with injury problems.

Perron costs money and Melnyk said without the casino this team will be a cap floor team

Karlsson will score more... but after that i don't see the Sens outscoring Chicago. Offensively after Karlsson its Corvo and Wiercoch. Nice drop off there

That's depressing to say the least. If we are a cap floor team in 2 years there's no way we'll be able to afford all of Spezza, Ryan, Michalek, Zibanejad, Conacher, Pageau, Methot, Cowen, Wiercioch, Anderson and Lehner.

Let's hope for some better news moving forward.

Its sad to say but if 1 of our players leaves because of Melnyk's money problems i dont think i could keep following the team because we would end up developing players for other teams

Then don't come running back if the Sens ever make it to the Cup finals and pretend you've been a fan through hell and high water!
