Structuring a deal similar too the Bobby Ryan trade....

To St.Louis:
-Phil Kessel

To Toronto:
-Tarasenko (8.5 C)
-Jaskin (7.0 C)
-2014 2nd Round Pick

Thought process on trade i used Hockey's Future for talent score and probability of success, then compared it too Bobby Ryan trade pieces which ill show here.

To Ottawa:
-Bobby Ryan

To Anaheim:
-Silfverberg (8.0 C)
-Noesen (7.0 B)
-2014 1st round pick

Thoughts?

Doesn't really make sense to be making this trade, we're not really trying to rebuild we're trying to get better.

Anaheim wanted to move Ryan for depth pieces. They still have their PPG stars. Where is the incentive for Toronto? They locked up Kessel's best friend for a reason.

First off, Kessel is leagues ahead of Ryan. Kessel went PPG+ with Bozak while Ryan is a 60 point man with Getzaf.

Second of all, how does this help the leafs?

Ryan's a great player, let's not undermine him, I am a leafs fan, I know how kessel is as well lol

Anyway, he's a UFA next season anyway, and I doubt he'd sign in St.louis if traded there

The Blues would have to move significant salary to make room for this. I think that would be a net subtraction once all the dust settled.

There are a handful of players in the league I'd be willing to do that for, but Kessel isn't on that list. He's a nice player, but a better fit for Toronto than STL.

Even if we completely forget about value and the fact that Kessel is a year away from unrestricted free agency, the Blues cannot afford Kessel. And I don't mean according to an internal cap. They have about 13 million of real cap space to sign Pietrangelo, Stewart, Paajarvi, and Allen.

I think it's a bad start to a deal for a lot of reasons, but whatever - probably the only way this trade begins to work is if the Blues are sending back a big chunk of salary.

Forgot to put salary into consideration, oops. And also Toronto does this if Kessel does not want to re-sign, and he has a list with St.Louis on it. Anyways its all for fun and discussion.

Leafs have no need to trade their star winger.

For the Blues, we just shed salary with Perron, we're not looking to take anymore unless it's Stewart and Pietrangelo. We shouldn't be trading our cost controlled players on ELCs, their too valuable to us at this point.

Do people not realize Phil Kessel has played at over a PPG pace the last 2 seasons... A handful of players can make that claim. If that is not elite then i don't know what is.

Pick would have to be a 1st (2014/2015 Leafs choice), and a better prospect than Jaskin or a young roster player

As already stated, Kessel IS better than Ryan, and Leafs need an incentive to move Kessel. Right now, they have no reason to move their best player.

Not to mention, the deal you proposed is Much Worse than what was offered for Ryan.

Ottawa got a better return for a worse player

Toronto isn't moving Kessel for anything on St. Louis besides Petro so lock her up.

If this whole deal is contingent on Kessel not re-signing, why would he come here? We wouldn't give up two of our best prospects to take on one year of kessel, knowing we probably couldn't afford to keep him anyway. The Blues aren't in a position to make a deal like this. We are going to need our cheap young players.

And Petro isn't moving for one year of Kessel. So, lets double lock her up

Toronto has no reason to trade Kessel, whereas Anaheim had no choice but to trade Ryan. This trade would never happen.

Not too many of those around the league. Jaskin doesn't get too much hype around here, but he is a very solid player with very high upside. Either way, this deal doesn't make sense for either team.

that may be entirely true, as i know very little, and close to nothing about him ...which was the reason for asking for upgrade.

I see giroux as a comparable to kessel and if he got just under that I would be fine. I just love all the montreal fans that come into these threads hoping beyond hope kessel doesnt re sign here, toronto isnt montreal folks there may be a ton of pressure but we still support our team no matter what can habs fans say the same, I think not.

Comparing Kessel and Ryan is hilarious. Ryan scores more goals per game over his NHL career with less TOI and PP time, but he's coming off a bad year while Kessel could be trending higher, has played more and is a year younger.

Still, Kessel's made a home for himself in Toronto and there's almost no chance he leaves. And that's from a Sens fan who wants nothing more than for him to walk next year!!
