Its Posey and that is one catcher out of how many?

Seriously, you are the only person walking the earth who is carrying the burden of worrying that Joe Mauer is striking out too much.

This time of the year just sucks for sports and is even worse when the Twins are playing so horribly.

Can't wait for NFL training camp to start.

I've never been much of a football fan, other than watching the Vikings every weekend. But I'm actually looking forward to this year. They could do some damage

They could. It'll be interesting to see the battle between Cassel and Ponder.

It won't be much considering Leslie already stated Ponder as the starter.

You know what I mean If Ponder makes a mistake or has a bad game, you know the pressure will be on Leslie to start Cassel. We don't have the option of going, well you want Webb to start?

Honestly, I wouldn't mind Webb at all. Kind of hard to judge him when he wasn't allowed to play all year and then put in the worst possible position. That was absolutely, 100%, not his fault.

They knew what they had in Webb. Webb played before at QB and they saw him in practice. They drafted Webb as a WR.

Still, they should have at least given him some time in the regular season during blowouts. That would have made the playoffs less embarrassing.

And I hate the argument, but he was drafted as a WR. No, he was drafted as both.

We didn't have any blowouts.

No, he wasn't. They added him as a QB after the draft because they saw what they liked during training camp and wanted to see if he could develop. But they saw him as a Randle-El type.

Tennessee, Tampa Bay, Chicago(first)

Saw what they liked in training camp and the majority of his college career. He performed his pro day as a wide receiver, which led to believe he'd be a receiver.

ESPN has him listed as being drafted at the Quarterback. If ESPN gets something right, its not hockey.

Actually, the Vikings drafted him as a WR, he played in the Senior Bowl as a WR, he went through the combine as a WR... it wasn't until mini-camp and they saw him throw that Brad Childress decided to switch him back to QB. Just one of MANY mistakes by that moron.

Except for the fact Joe Webb wasn't invited to the combine.

I still think Webb, in the right situation, could be a quality quarterback. But given his college numbers, thinking he'll be an acceptable wide receiver is a far fetched scenario anyways. Still, hes the most talked about 6th round pick of Vikings picks in recent memory.

Sorry, meant his pro-day...

He's far too inaccurate to be a QB in the NFL.

Past 6 yards, so is Ponder.

Ponder is more accurate than Webb and a better decision maker too... it's not saying much considering who I just compared him to, but Webb does not belong at QB... period.

Not to mention Webb's competition was pretty freaking bad.

Tennessee yes, but that's not really good competition for Webb. Oh well. Tampa Bay (can't remember anything about that game but it doesn't look like a blow out) and Chicago, the loss?

Tampa Bay just tore us to pieces. We didn't have a chance. And the Chicago game was over at half. Even if we only let him play a quarter, thats still a quarter more experience than he had before.

But what would be the point? If they saw no future with Webb at QB, why give him a shot? I don't think they knew Ponder was going to be injured (or that they would be in playoff contention at the start of the season)

Why give him a shot? Why give him experience? Did you not watch the playoffs last year? Thats why. So, we don't put people in position to fail and embarrass ourselves in the mean time.

Here's the thing, Minnesota just had their WORST year ever as an organization. Adrian Peterson was questionable on coming back and they had some rookies at some very key spots. Playoffs were far from their minds entering the season and they wanted to continue building around Ponder and not putting too much pressure on him. They knew that making the playoffs would be a long shot, especially if Peterson had trouble returning.

They didn't use Webb for three key reasons; playoffs were still a long shot away (with the Chicago and Tampa Bay losses), they were coming up on the most difficult portion of their schedule, and because they didn't know Ponder would be out with a bad injury after playing Green Bay.

Furthermore, Webb wasn't seen as anything more than the unfortunate backup on an improbable season. They wanted to give Ponder as many reps as possible that season for him to grow and hopefully succeed and learn. That includes any blowouts because where else are you going to get some experience from?

They didn't think, let's just throw Webb in there because we think he'll be a great backup in the future and we might make the playoffs with Ponder out. Would it have been ideal? Damn right, it would have been ideal but nothing about the season was normal. And as such, they had to go with what they had. Webb had taken some snaps in the previous season, was in all their practices, and was a very raw quarterback that Childress thought could be turned into a quarterback sometime maybe in the future. 3 games wouldn't have made a lot of difference, especially in a blow out mop up situation.

Webb isn't going to fail as a QB because he wasn't drafted as a QB and never really seen as a QB other than by Childress. Hell, they are moving him to WR this season because ultimately that's where his future is going to be.

Webb came from a small college that didn't play against the big schools consistently. He had a large and almost improbable learning curve ahead of him and was put in that position simply as a filler and nothing more.

It is absolutely time to move on but not sure they will fire him. It is his final year on this contract, if he wishes to finish out the year then I suspect they will let him do that.

Hard to believe (for me anyways) but most posters on this board have not seen a Twins manager fired in their life time. Ray Miller 1982 was the last one.

So who would posters like to see as the next manager? Will the Twins go outside or stay inside to get him?
