Bottom 6 and D line combos?

Curious as to what the lines should look like according to you guys. I try to follow the Oilers but don't know that much about Gordon or Perron so IDK where they currently fit.

Looking at bottom 6 and D mostly since the top 6 is pretty obvious.

Oilers (dismal) bottom 6...

Jones-Gordon-Hemsky
Eager-Lander/UFA-Brown/Smyth/Joenssu
Smyth/Brown/Joenssu

D is more questionable

Smid-Petry
Ference-Schultz
Schultz-Belov/Klefa/Larsen/Potter

Not sure if the Oilers will carry an extra 2 forwards or a 7th Dman...

We still have all summer to address players in the bottom six. I know it's not looking great but it doesn't exactly have to. I mean look at the Stanley cup champions. This is their current bottom 6:

Hayes-Handzus-Morin
Carcillo-Shaw-Bollig

Sooo from what I have seen/read so far...

Assuming that Hemsky is traded.

Hall-Gagner-Yakupov
Perron-RNH-Eberle
Smyth-Gord-Jones
Joensuu-Lander-Brown
Eager-Miller-Rajala?

Aside from Gordon..the bottom 6 looks like it is going to see a lot of change during the season depending on who is competing for a spot.

I think Miller has the skill to take the 4th line role from Lander.

Smid-Petry
Ference-Schultz
Belov/Schultz-Fistric/Klefbom/Potter?

We really need to lose Nick Schultz. Losing Fistric hurts our toughness, and what was the point of trading for him...

Oilers Lineup after the Perron trade

Make up your own roster after the trade for David Perron. Forwards, Defenseman and Goalies.

Here's mine:
Hall - RNH - Eberle
Perron - Gagner - Yakupov
Smyth - Gordon - Hemsky
Joensuu - Lander - Brown
Jones

J. Schultz - Smid
N. Schultz - Ference
Petry - Belov
Potter
Larsen

Dubnyk
Backman
Labarbera

I know some players may not be playing where they normally play but I just looked up the roster and did it that way.

Personally I want to see Perron with Nuge and Ebs. I think that could be a solid line.

Current state..

Hall - Gagner - Yakupov
Perron - RNH - Eberle
Jones - Gordon - Hemsky
Smyth - Lander - Brown
Joensuu

Ference - J. Schultz
Smid - Petry
N. Schultz - Belov/Klefbom
Larsen

Potter can GTFO.

Dubnyk
Labarbera

Nice! But which Schultz is which? I've been told each one could be a #3-#6 defensman so I'm not sure about either one anymore. Haha

Obviously RNH is a better 1C than Gagner however I went with "pairs", i would keep RNH and Eberle together as well as Hall and Yakupov, and IMO whatever line Hall is on is line 1.

The defense to me is up in the air right now depending on performance in TC, I could easily see both Klefbom and Belov making the team to start the season which would shake things up.

Notably left out of my lineup is Ales Hemsky. Ideally Hemsky now gets moved for a legit 3rd line RW. If he stays he would fit in 3rd line RW and push everyone else down, If he goes obviously his replacement would slot in there somewhere. Also my current lineup is contingent on Eager removing his head from his ass.

I would probably like to see someone other than Ryan Smyth at 4th line LW because he is done IMO (Although I love him) but I'm sure he makes the team for "good old boy" reasons.

Hall-Gagner-Yakupov
Perron-Nuge-Eberle
Penner/Morrow-Gordon-Boyes/Mueller
Joensuu-Talbot-Jones
Smyth/Lander

Coburn-Petry
Ference- J.Schultz
Smid- Belov
Klefbom

I know this isn't based on our current roster, but I just can't stomach any roster where Smyth/Joensuu/Jones are on our 3rd line.

Sign Penner/Morrow and Boyes/Mueller for 3rd line (grit/size on left wing, some offensive upside on right wing)
Deal Hemsky (retaining some salary if necessary) + 2014 1st + Prospect (Musil?) to Philadelphia for Coburn and Talbot (I will not give up on the idea of getting Coburn from the Flyers)

I agree, although keep in mind that forward group lacks Hemsky/return from Hemsky trade, which would (hopefully) round it out a bit more.

Kodiak's post reflects my idea of the roster next season, with Jones on RW and Eager on LW. I'm not totally opposed to Jones as #3 RW, but we really do need a better #3 LW if Eager doesn't show up in camp.
We also need a 2/3 line tweener that can jump into the top 6 if there is an injury. Currently we don't have a single capable player in the bottom 6 that can do that.

I think signing Latendresse/Penner/Mueller would be very beneficial for our depth.

I'm hoping our shotty defense was mostly a product of a poor system and improvement can be made without too much player movement. Although Coburn would be nice, I'm not that unhappy about if current defense heading into next season. I wouldn't mind a year to properly evaluate our defensemen under Eakin's system. Maybe aim to sign Boyle or Phaneuf I'm the next offseason.

I think it would be smart to have Perron and Gagner on different lines. Adds a much more balanced top 6 and teams would have to find different ways to match up against each line because separating them really makes a 1a 1b situation. If you have both on the same line then it's clear what your first and second lines are.

Something like this would be just fine.

Top line of Hall-Gagner-Yakupov makes more sense than Hall-RNH-Eberle.

Both Gagner and Hall were able to set Yakupov up for some nice goals last season.

Hall-RNH-Eberle line was effective last season at cycling the puck, but they couldn't score.

That would be truly remarkable and a great offseason if MacT's last deals were to snag Coburn and Talbot and sign a Brendan Morrow type. That team would be dynamite. IMO my team would use Eager and brown if possible instead of Smyth.

It sounds like they're going with three scoring lines until someone gets hurt or moved.

Hopefully Pitlick breaks out somehow. Otherwise it's Gordon.

Hall-Gagner-Yakupov
Smyth-Hopkins-Eberle
Perron-Pitlick-Hemsky
Jones-Gordon-Joenssu
Smyth

Jesus, that spot was tailor made for Monahan.

Pitlick is faaar away from cracking a roster spot and hasnt played C in AHL the last 2 yrs..
Smyth on line #2 is disturbing

Here's my best guess

Hall - Gagner - Yakupov
Perron - RNH - Eberle
Smyth - Gordon - Jones
Eager - Lander - Joensuu
Brown

Smid - Petry
Ference - J.Schultz
Schultz - Potter
Larsen/Belov

Goalies seem fairly obvious and I just realized I don't have Hemsky in there.
Hopefully Hemsky is traded for bottom 6 help on the wing/C. If not I guess third line looks like
Jones - Gordon - Hemsky
