Seth is going to make a few teams regret they passed on him next season. Put that in ink.

Another stud defenseman to the Preds. To most teams a guy like Jones is a necessity, to the Preds he's a luxury.

I'am a Pens fan. The idea of a damn rookie getting time on top lines/pairings ahead of deserving veteran grinder types is just so strange....

Varies by player, but Poile / Trotz are excellent at gauging blueliners. Josi played most of his time in his rookie season (11-12) on the second pairing with Klein and jumped to first pairing with Weber last season. He was one of the best players on our team last year and won MVP at the IIHF WCs this past year. I think they did a great job with him and expect us to do the same with Seth.

But seriously so stoked about this signing. We have Weber very long term, Josi for another 7 years minimum, Klein for a while still and now Jones. Not to mention Ryan Ellis, Victor Bartley, and now Mattias Eckholm about to make the team. If only we had this wealth on the offensive side of things.

We just don't really have any of those. The bottom pairing is likely going to be some combination of Ellis, Bartley, Ekholm or any other d-man that we happen to pick up between now and season start, playing sheltered minutes. Putting him with Klein is probably the best spot, as Klein is consistent and reliable and will be a good anchor for Jones.

Are they really doing that? A Righty-Righty pairing is almost unheard of. Those two have the talent to pull it off, but even at the WJC the USA kept Trouba and Jones apart except on the PP because neither was all that comfortable on the left side. Would like to see it, just have a feeling it gets broken up eventually and they move Klein for a massive return at some point and role with this as an incredible one two punch, shield Ellis on the third pairing with second PP duty, pick up a big time lefty that can pk a ton and don't play the third pairing massive amounts of even strength time.

Anybody know if Seth is expected to live with Weber or any of that kind of stuff, or is mum the word on that stuff so far?

Something has got to give on right handed guys though

Weber
Jones
Klein
Ellis

Pred fans...time to build a true contender. Opportunity knocks with this 1st or worst case 2nd pick that fell on your lap at 4th. Call Philly and make the move: Weber for Simmonds, Hartnell, and Couturier. Holmgren will bite. You might even get him to add a 1st to satisfy his ego and finally win his prize. Give Jones 1-2 years and you got yourself a fantastic playoff team...and Cup contender. Oh, by the way, you also rid yourselves of an albatross contract.

1. We have already paid out the big bonuses for weber, so now he is an insane talent to have due to him being best defenseman in the league, doesn't have a ntc, and had most of his big money/bonuses paid out. Weber is a predator for life most likely. At least another 13 years, thanks again Philly lol.

2. We won't trade weber, but if we did it would be to 'any' team in NHL and it would be highest bidder, and we could get a ton better than hartnell, couturier and simmonds lol.

3. I think every predator game for now on out will be 1-0 or 2-1 games.
With rinne, weber, josi, Klein, jones, Ellis, ekholm/Bartley. Predators are hands down the best defensive team in the league, if only we could score, I would be organizing the cup parade in Nashville.

Good for Nashville. I think they got a real keeper in Jones.

Weber is most likely a Pred for life. Face of the franchise. But thanks for not ending with the typical "We're doing you a favor because he doesn't want to play for you guys lolol"

Last season 180 LHD and 110 RHD played in at least one NHL game. You're telling me defensemen can't play their off hand?

Not sure how you got that idea from my previous post, because I'm about to bring up the issue you mentioned in this post.

Can either guys play on their off side at ES?

The Canucks had this issue for the past 2-3 seasons, we had a bunch of LHD who were severely handicapped if played on their off side. The pairings were juggled non-stop until players returned from injury.

It'll be nice to see Jones in the NHL next year. Now all the Preds need is some more scoring.
