Etem really hit another gear in the playoffs

Why hell wasn't he playing like that in Norfolk. We got to see flashes of skill but not at the level he show with the Ducks. After watching the Ducks vs Red Wings (I hate 10PM starts) Etem IMO was one of the more dangerous forwards the Ducks had in this series and a hell of a series it was.

Have a feeling I won't be seeing him in an Admirals sweater next year.

Not In Norfolk

I agree, we have seen the last of Etem in an Admirals jersey. He was very good in the playoffs.

Holy crap! I wasn't expecting that much info, but I am very, very thankful for the link. Awesome! This will certainly keep me busy during the summer as I'll read it off and on in small pieces because it's so overwhelming. LoL

Thanks again, Randy C!

Something for Your Viewing Pleasure

Since I inundated you with statistics, I though it only fair to give you a break by looking at this video piece. It's about a weekend in the Admirals now failed push to the playoffs. But it gives you some great behind the scenes looks at the players and Norfolk. Enjoy!

According to our transactions page on thn - Matt Smaby has signed in the DEL and Kyle Wilson the KHL. I checked on eliteprospects and it confirmed both signings.

Yeah, Smaby has been confirmed in Munich, where Red Bull's investing to make the team challenge. Will be interesting to see what he can do in the league. Bigger, physical NA defensemen tend to have a harder time in this league on the bigger ice, but we'll see.

Obstacles

Smaby has never been know for his outstanding skating ability or being injury free. The larger ice surface in Europe is not tailored to his skill set.

I would have honored that with the fitting reaction much earlier had I not been on the road the entire weekend...

Pretty much my line of thinking. But it's not like good German players tend to be better skaters, so he might convince in other ways. But I'm sceptical given that his price tag as a "bigger name" import probably isn't the smallest.

TRADE - Harry Zolnierczyk for Alex Grant

Small trade for the AHL affiliate...

Pens are stacked with many incoming defensive prospects... Grant seems like another Lovejoy type, an offensive guy with a good shot... maybe this is hinting that Vatanen will be playing in the NHL full time and this Grant fellow will be manning the power play in the AHL...

Ducks hire Jarrod Skalde as an assistant at AHL Norfolk, joining Trent Yawney and Marty Wilford. Skalde was ECHL coach of year w/Cincinnati.

A lot of our own youngster will be playing in Norfolk next year. Should be fun to watch, although a lot of them will be rookies there, so it will be tough, but hopefully they`ll manage to sneak into the playoffs. But the potential for them will be huge there

Is every DEL rink Olympic sized? and little bit OT, has there been any rumors about some DEL team joining KHL in the future?

Yes, for all I know, IIFH rinks are required by the German league, and I don't think many non-IIFH-sized ones exist over here. About the KHL, there had been rumors in the past (1-2 years ago), but those were very loose, and not close to materializing in any way. I think Red Bull was thinking about building up something in Leipzig that was thought to become a KHL-option, but with Red Bull now firmly involved at Munich, I don't think there's anything on the horizon in regards to KHL-options over the next few years.

Friberg, Sarault, Whitney

i think we need to get up this discussion as the season is approaching.

With Clark and goalie situation being discussed in other threads, i was willing to know (mostly from Govment and randy or someone who actually watches Ads games) more about last seasons late additions - Friberg, Sarault and Whitney, they played 6, 11 and 8 games respectively. Sarault and Whitney managed to get at least 0,5 PPG pace, but Friberg scored only 1 point (if i understand correctly, he played a bottom 6 role).

So, how did they looked? With who they played? I`m kind of excited about them this upcoming season.

Late Additions

Kalvinators, I only got to see Whitney and Sarault on the ice in Norfolk. Friberg was signed but the ADs finished the season on a long road trip (to be repeated this year) where all his games were on the road.

Whitney is a small guy 5'7" tall. But I give him credit for sticking his nose in along the boards and in the corners. However his size is going to dictate he needs to be more of a Marty St.Louis type of player. He certainly has a scoring touch and is not a defensive liability. He has speed to burn for sure.

Sarault was a very pleasant surprise here. He really showed an excellent passing ability. His pass to Maroon across the crease for an easy tap in to win in overtime was beautiful. I am expecting big things out of him. He should be our 2C with Holland or Rackell being the 1C unless both Rackell and Holland make the big club which I don't think will happen.

Please feel free to stop by admiralszone.com. It's quiet in there now but there is a spirited discussion once the season starts. I'd love to see you there.

Do you think Sarault and Whitney could work on one line? With, say, Laganiere?

Yeah, i think you meant .net
I remember that site from last season, will start to visit it more often to get updates on the Ads

From what I saw of Sarault in Norfolk, he should work with most lines that he'll have available. Laganiere is a wild card, right now. He could be in the top six or bottom six depending on the adjustment coming out of college.

Sarault Line

I agree, I think Sarault could work with about anybody. I like a Laganier, Whitney, Sarault line. Laganier is a big body forward and Whitney is a 5'7" mighty mite. They would give some size balance to the line. I feel that Holland/Rackell will be the 1C.

Much depends on who gets sent to Norfolk from the Ducks camp. Right now there are a lot a balls in the air.

Is Whitney exclusively a winger? I've seen him listed as both centre and wing.

Whitney

During his brief stint with the Admirals at the end of last season, he played on the wing. We are pretty loaded with centers or appears to be.
