I love Doug Murray, but we have no need for Schaefer, Doug Murray + a winger with speed and that has some hands would make me happy.

San Jose has two very talented young offensive defensemen in Carle and Ehrhoff, but a guy like Schneider could potentially put them over the top.

It would be a package centered around a defenseman like Doug Murray or Josh Gorges combined with a pick and a B- to C+ level winger, which the Sharks have a lot of.

Matheiu Schneider is a very good offensive defenseman, but he's 37 YO and not going to garner a whole lot in a trade, at least player-wise.

If I'm Detroit I take a good, long hard look at that trade. The Wings have looked like they miss Shanny, and Murray could possibly fill his shoes, at least somewhat.

Not sure why Boston does this though, other then dumping over a million in salary.

no way the wings do this. contract is just too long, boston would have to unload more to get rid of murray IMO, if this were his last year or even if it was his 2nd to last year it might be possible, but there's no way it happens with 3 years left on his contract.

In a deal for a 37 year old UFA pending defensmen, I would take either/or. You have to get something for Schneider...you cant let him walk after the year.

To the canucks

We got 2 wingers for ya..

To Vancouver:
Mathieu Schnieder
Pavel Datsyuk

To Detroit:
Matt Cooke
Jan Bulis
Rory Fitzpatrick
3rd round pick (07)

Guess that 3rd, can be a 07 2nd since we have a bunch...fair?

Ummm... no?

Man, Schneider is underrated. I know he's 37 and is a UFA to be, but he's still a very solid defenseman.

Maybe so, but because of the contract and his age, the best Detroit is going to do to get a scoring winger for Schneider is a prospect or another "older" player with a big contract (like a Murray.) And that will be from a trade with a team that thinks they can go all the way, due to Schneider's UFA status.

Detroit might be able to unload him at the deadline for a good prospect and/or pick, but that of course will depend on where they are sitting in the standings.

If the Blues can get the package of picks and prospects that they got from Carolina for Doug Weight at last years deadline, then I dont see a problem with the Wings getting some decent picks and/or prospects for Schneider.

As a Wings fan, I dont necessarily care if they get a NHL ready player in return either. Getting some picks and young prospects would be just fine with me.

so because of schneider's contract, the best we could get is another player with a bigger, longer contract??? does that even sound right??? maybe if murray was on his last year yeah, but not while he's got 2- 3 years left.
