Have to disagree. Especially if it means Emelin's effectiveness being reduced. Emelin needs to play LD more than Tinordi

Don't thibk he's going back to the AHL ever. Mainly because we really really need a defenseman like him in the lineup.

-He (IMO) was very good considering the circumstances in both callups last year
-I think he has a great ceiling as a shutdown Dman (top4)

What are your point predictions for him next year?

Do you expect him to at least be a solid 'band-aid' until Emelin is back?

Do you think he could surpass our expectations?

Do you think he could slump?

Thanks in advance.

Tinordi was 6'6.5" and 218lbs at the start of last year.

Instead of penciling him in, I'd prefer signing a veteran and starting him AHL. I guess depemding on if they sign another veteran NHL d-man, we'll see their intentions.

I'm hoping he can step in a play top 4 minutes right off the bat. I think Gorges would be a good partner because he's a steady veteran and was great with Gill, who played a similar role.

With Emelin out, I'd go with these pairings...

Markov - Subban
Tinordi - Gorges
Boullion/Drewiskie - Dias

When Emelin comes back, I'd hope that was enough time to put him with Subban and give us 3 good pairings.

Tinordi - Subban
Markov - Emelin
Gorges - Dias

But I think we should temper our expectations. I still think it's possible Tinordi plays on the 3rd pair and plays PK.

Gorges - Subban
Markov - Dias
Tinordi - Boullion

Either way, I don't think it'll be very long before Tinordi can at least be a solid top 4 guy. I think his ceiling is likely a top 2 d-man and top minute eater alongside Subban. If that doesn't happen, he'll likely be a 20-22 min top 4 d man and PK man at the very least.

Technically. But he played on the right side last year, and when asked about it he said he has no problem playing either.

Tinordi - Subban
Markov - Gorges/Emelin
Bouillon/Gorges - Diaz/Pateryn
Pateryn/Drewiske/Bouillon

He showed last season that he _can_ play in the NHL. But... he was used as a 3rd pairing guy... he averaged 13 mins in the playoffs and 11 mins in the regular season. My question is how much will the coaching staff be willing to trust him... because if he plays some nights, sits in the press box some nights, and gets lets than 15 mins a night when he does play... well, I wouldn't be against seeing him play 25 mins a night in Hamilton instead.

All depends on who else we sign, to me. If we sign one more solid guy on D, it opens the door to sending somebody down. Tinordi is the easiest one to send down. So I wouldn't rule out sending him down, even while thinking he's capable of playing in the NHL.

For a guy that had no real puck skills when drafted, he's come a long way. Even watching him in London after he was drafted, I thought he needed to system to succeed. He played real well in his call up, rushing with the puck and pinching in the offensive zone.

Yes we need to keep getting bigger on the D. I think he is ready for full time duty. But if the habs make a trade for another experienced d-man it will not hurt Tinordi to go back to Hamilton and play big time minutes.
Who knows maybe another young d-man might surprise us at rookie camp and win the 7th d-man spot....which would be great. Having Competition between rookies will only make are team stronger in the long run.

The 230lbs part? That was a guess. But he's defintely put on weight since last year. just watch his development camp interview, and adding 12 pounds to 6'6.5" is not that hard.

I think he'll get the Jonas Brodin treatment from Habs fans. He won't have the numbers, but we'll cry foul when he's not nominated for Calder. His importance will only be noticed if you watch the games.
I doubt he plays to the level Brodin played. Brodin was flat out dominant. Without Brodin, there's no Suter this year.

Emelin-Subban
Markov-Tinordi
Gorges-Diaz
Boullion
Considering the disparity in heights it might be possible to do it without a vaulting pole.

In an ideal world he would go back to Hamilton, but we may have no choice but to keep the full year in the bigs.

Based on what?

It's actually should be the other way around, to play your offwing/offside, you are on your backhand a lot more, and Emelin is a lot better than Tinordi when it comes to puck handling skills, add to that the fact that Emelin has played a ton of RD in his days in Russia.

Ppl think Emelin hit less this year because of playing RD, it's not true, while he played LD early in his rookie year, he played mainly RD, being paired with Kaberle, the reason he has less hits last year compared to his first year is because he is playing better positional, doesn't go for the hits that take him out of position like he did in his first year.

As for Tinordi, I think he is a lock to make the team, last year after training camp, Therrien said he was one of the toughest guys to cut, in terms of being close to NHL ready. After his play at the end of the year, unless something wrong happens he should make the club.

I was surprised the Habs played him on RD even though he has never played that before, not in juniors, or AHL, he did better than expected.

I'm not sure where he fits in the lineup, but when he is ready for top minutes, I think him and Subban are going to be an ideal top pairing. Not sure if you guys remember but I think Subban was more dominate in the later part of the 2011 season and in the playoffs, when he was paired with Hal Gill, playing 28-30 mins a game of just pure shut down hockey, remember they shutdown the Lucic DK Horton line to 6 points in all 7 games. Also gives Subban a little protection, I remember anyone that would try to touch Subban, Gill would just come and give them a big hug, and it worked.

Tinordi's gonna be in MTL.

Play him on the left side instead of the right side. Thank you.

I didn't say he'd play to the level of Brodin, I just said that he will get Brodin-like hype from us with a great season, and no one else in the NHL will really notice because there will be no numbers to back up his play.
