Things I don't look forward to: The eastern European contingent of the Main Boards insisting that this was the right thing to do, there's nothing wrong with it and that we only feel it was scummy because of a "Russian Bias".

i think i pointed it out a few times, but how epic would it be for kovalchuk to return to the NHL signing at a discounted rate with the Rangers and winning the cup.

Truly a Mickey Mouse organization once again.

Kovy is a real *********, though. Great player, but poor character to bolt for Russia after the team invests so much in him. Devils get ****ed over majorly -- they had to give up draft picks for his cap circumventing contract.

but this is absolutely awful for the NHL to lose one it's best star players like that. for the sake of the game, it's really unfortunate news.

Devils own his rights until he is 43.

Man, you REALLY like Kovy.

Besides, if that happened, I think a decent percentage of HFNJD might off themselves. That's bad.

I can't believe some of the comments in this thread. Sure, it's the Devils, but this is a loss for the league. Great player, was a thrill to watch. Could have gone down as one of the best Russian players ever.

This guy was my favorite player in the league before he turned on me and went to Jersey.

I like him again.

No, but seriously.. something had to happen. Hope all is well with him and his family

wont happen. hes devs property.

and hes pretty beat up physically.

if he really retires, i have no problem with it. if hes just bailing on his team somehow then its a bush move.

as i said before, he was one of my favorite players of all time. just a ridiculous talent.

Happy dance!... If feeling this good about someone else's misfortune makes me petty, so be it.

But how long before he could come out of retirement so to speak? Has to be some legality issues behind a move like that.

Absolutely terrible for the Devils and their fans. Why would he bail after 3 years? And what's with his terrible timing..he couldn't do this a month ago?
