Players are basically the same size. Perron is entering his prime Clarkson has peaked and will likely start to decline. Perron is a vastly superior offensive player and at least as good or not better defensively.
Perron will likely get better as well.

So for an additional $1.45M per season and a very restrictive additional 4 years the Oiler could have had a player in Clarkson who is offensively inferior and a little grittier.

Perron brings some grit and much better offence. Perron brings more cap flexibility and doesn't throw the salary structure out of whack.
In addition to all that, Clarkson is a RW - we've got 3 top 6 right wings already.

But Clarkson brings a certain level of physicality to the game that Perron doesn't, even though Perron has a nose for the net. That said, I'm happy with the way things unfolded.

BTW, he answered 6', 200lbs. I'm not sure I believe him, but whatever.

I dunno why there are so many questions about this guys height, he's not that small.

Here's a picture of him with Stewart, who is 6'2"

True enough.
Acquiring Clarkson would have meant somebody would have to play on their off wing.

Perron is a right handed shot but can play LW. Although Hitchcock says he would be more effective on RW its almost a lock that Perron will be used on LW.

Even though Clarkson brings more physicality he does not offer value for his contract. Perron while less physical is a much better finisher, provides some grit and brings very good value for his contract.

Height/weight don't mean a lot to me. Attitude does.

Jay Bouwmeester: 6'4'' 212lbs

Niklas Kronwall: 6' 190lbs

He looks about 2 inches shorter. He's probably 6 foot

This board is soo funny some times. If Perron is actually 5-11, OMG, the world is over. Who cares.

Hated this trade since the second it was annouced. But now that I've had some time to digest things and come to grips with trading Paajarvi, probably my favorite non-big 4 forward. This deal actually looks really nice for us. Sure Perron isn't big like Stewart or a hard hitter like Kulemin/Foglino, but he's a proven 20 goal scorer. That's what we hope Paajarvi can become. Wish we'd given up someone like David Musil instead, but I'm looking forward to seeing what Perron can do in our top 6.

but that could be based on Hitch's system and where HE thinks that player fits in his system. under a more wide open system, him being on the off-wing for one timers and cross-grain shots might benefit him more to scoring goals, etc... we'll see.

On a serious note I was conflicted on this trade but I'm warming up to it a lot more today, clear upgrade for us.

I wonder if the Blues talked the price up, or if the Oilers talked the price down?

Phew. I'm glad we got rid of PRV when we did. He was secretly 34.

Touche!

One of my favourite d-man scott stevens 6'0, ray bourque was under 6ft, infact the list for greatest d-man there is probably more 6ft and under than you ever thought. Greatest d-man Bobby Orr 5-11. The Chris Pronger, Zdeno chara's of the world are offset by so many d-man of that size when I hear names like olesiak coming up in trade rumours I don't take anything with that.

watch dion phaneuf and tell me what a 6'3 guy who can't think the game very well, and goes for a big hit when he should watch his assignment is worth.

Exactly. The added 2nd may have been at the request of Armstrong but no one has mentioned it and that would make me think PRV didn't have quite as much cachet as he does on HFB.
