Seeing Lander handed a spot makes me a bit uneasy. We have to get another center before training camp.

I would sign him on a one year, cheap deal. Would add some competition for spots at least.

some unsigned UFA center's still available...

Matthew Lombardi
Grabovski (stop crushing the dream Stauffer)
Kyle Wellwood
Dave Steckel (he win's faceoffs but I think thats really about it)
Manny Malholtra

Kind of slim pickins
It says on Capgeek that Vande Velde is a UFA as well ? Will he be returning to the Barons or is he being set to pasture ?

Honestly looking at the crap available in free agency, the only actual NHLers there are Smithson and Steckel (the team has reportedly no interest in Grabovski). Both are faceoff/hit bots who have no puck skills, or any other hockey skills for that matter. However, our center depth is terrible, might as well bring in one of them as a 13th forward.

I get the feeling that the only reason MacT hasn't addressed the bottom 6 C depth yet is because his focus is getting Gagner re signed and seeing what our cap hit looks like after. Still need a winger or two for the bottom 6 as well.

Also factor in he's probably trying to trade Hemsky for bottom 6 help too.

This was pretty obvious. Perron is a clear upgrade on Paajarvi.

My realistic ideal forward group going into this season:

Hall-Gagner-Yakupov
Perron-RNH-Eberle
Morrow-HEMSKYTRADE-Jones

4th line is a conglomerate of whatever remains with all our players. One signing in Morrow but can easily be replaced with Penner/Latendresse/Boyes, anything somewhat physical LW.

I feel like Lander is one of the players who is going to thrive with Eakins as a coach. I wouldn't be opposed to him as a 4C this year.

What about the 3M dollar man, Boyd Gordon?

That top 6 is perfect tho.

Fairly confident that Gordon is our 3C barring something completely unexpected

It's either that or we've got a 3mill caphit on our 4C.

He can play 3C but I'd rather get a 3C with some more offensive potential so that line isn't a complete black hole.

We just had a 5.5m 3C, I think we can manage with a 3M 4C who we put out there on the PK as well.

Yes that is my ideal top 6, RNH feeding Eberle and Perron will be magic, and it lets RNH stay away from the other teams top defence.

Gordon's #'s suggest that he moves the puck the other way. His line will hopefully be Chris Kelly like in that even though there are no bonafide goal scorers there, they can generate some points by sheer pressure and possession. I like the idea of Jones with Gordon because he's been known to put 10-15 away just by going to the net.

I am not a huge fan of the move either, but in his rookie year he did play 4th line duties for 1/2 a season and didn't look out of place. The offense and faceoffs weren't there, but the defense was. I didn't see a lot of the Barons this year. Perhaps the Oilers feel Lander has made strides in those areas and is ready for 4th line minutes.

It's starting to sound like MacT is going to sign Gagner and go into the season with the lineup we have. I guess we'll see if it's good enough to compete in a new tougher division.

Hall - Gagner - Yakupov
Perron - RNH - Eberle
Jones - Gordon - Hemsky
Brown - Lander - Joensuu
Smyth

Smid - Petry
Ference - Schultz
Belov - Schultz
Larsen, Potter

Dubnyk
Labarbera

To be honest, unless the kids all explode, I don't see that as a playoff team.

Here's what I'd like to see:

Hall-Gagner-Yakupov
Perron-Nuge-Eberle
Morrow-Gordon-Hemsky
Joensuu-Lander/UFA-Brown
Jones-Smyth

We have the potential to have a very tough 4th line if we grab a guy like Steckel or even Antropov just for his 6`6 frame.

Ference-Schultz
Smid-Petry
Schultz-Larsen
Belov

Wouldn't be surprised if Klefbom earns a spot in training camp. Looked really good in the development camp.

Dubnyk
Labarbera

Labarbera is a steady backup goalie who might even challenge for the #1 spot.

That trade won't work. We gave up our 2nd pick in the Perron trade unless it's in 2015. I would think hard about that proposal even if it's the 2015 2nd pick.

I hope the people who have Gagner as the #1 on their mock lineups only have him there because Nuge will be recovering from surgery.

They have him there because there are two first lines on this team. Obviously no one is saying Gagner is better than Nuge.

Geez, what is this site's obsession with labeling lines?

F Lines

Hall - RNH - Eberle
Perron - Gagner - Brown
Greening - Lander - Yakupov
Smyth - Smith (better FO) - Jones

x's - Gordon, Hemsky will be traded/ he's already sold his house
I like some toughness on each of the 2/3/4th lines

Defensive pairings

Schultz - Ference
Petry - (could be the Coburn trade for Hemsky)
Belov - Smid

macT isn't done - he's said so several times ... expect 2/3 more moves before the end of the summer!

After the season he had he deserves to have a chance on the 1st line. Him and Hall really click.

It's the 2015 2nd. I think it's pretty fair and Florida needs dmen. They give up Kulikov but there's rumors that it's not a happy marriage, and given the young big forwads they have i could see Kopecky and Matthias being avaliable for the right price. I made sure that Florida wasn't taking back a bunch more money in the deal either, i think it works.
