Not if you're looking for any kind of offense.

Would love to have him as the third line centre though.

The dude gets 1st line minutes and has yet to have a 40 point season. I think I'll just stick with "the scrub who can only get 40 points".

But he hasn't exactly been surrounded by high skilled wingers and also has played in a defensively minded phoenix system. He is a big guy, good skater and a solid two way player also pretty good on faceoffs. Put him in between perron and yak and I Bill Guerin-tee he bests his career point totals.

With ribeiro brought in I think he could be had but don't know what coyotes would want for him.

Hanzal is a joke offensively, however he would be perfect in a third line role, with Gordon as 4C. That would give us the most defensively responsible bottom 6 in the league.

Yes because Yakupov and Kovalchuk are totally comparable.

i didn't say we should trade him; i said that we should think about it, evaluate our options, maybe get a surprisingly good deal for him. i'm not suggesting to trade him for first package we are offered, but it'd be nice to know if somebody wanted to maybe overpay.

We would have to trade Yakimov, Zharkov, Slepshev and Belov also. I'm not ready to let go that kind of high offensive octane since Yakupov is the "glue" to keeping those guys.

s**t just got real, guys. seriously. first a potential superstar snubs NHL for KHL (Radulov); then an established one (Kovy); maybe time will come soon when Nail will also get an outlandish offer. everybody has to bear this in mind from now on.

What's changed with Yakupov in the last 24 hours?

Then there's Pavel Datsyuk who understands the sacrifice of being an NHL player. Sergei Zubov, Sergei Gonchar.

I don't by it, let these men of weak character run home, continue to draft Russians and surround them with people who can show them what good character is.

Pavel Datsyuk has been speaking profusely last week about how much he would like to play in his hometown Ekaterinburg. Sergei Zubov actually ended his career playing in KHL. additionally all these players are dating back to times when even a wealthy man would find Russia a pretty unpleasant place to live; the younger guys are much different.

i may be overreacting, but i predicted the eventual defection of Kovalchuk when the debacle of him wanting to stay was rolling out after lockout ended; time showed that i was correct.

I've been saying that ever since the punishment came down. I'll believe the Devils will forfeit that pick when I see it, not a moment sooner.

Its something to keep in mind as its a option. I am ok with the risk as long as we put our best foot forward on keeping them here. It is scary to think that some billionaire in russia with a hard on for yak could offer him a crazy amount of money to go play on his favorite team in the KHL. Don't even think I could blame Yak if he went for the money.

My goodness some people overreact, like what kovie just did has any effect on yak. If anything has changed maybe its that Hemky just got more valuable

Then re-signed in Detroit

When he did, at ages 38 and 39 after suffering a hip injury in the NHL

Sure, they saw the end of Communism, but it's not as if they all "vanished" after the KHL came on board.

How about someone like Volchkenov? He could probably make just as much and it would be easier on him in the KHL. Kulemin? Markov? Orlov? These guys just must be suffering in silence. Or they have strong character perhaps.

Kovalchuk clearly stopped being concerned with being great, he cares about being comfortable, that's fine, I don't know that Yakupov is wired to be anything less then the best.

If Yakupov starts getting home sick around 30 at least we got 12 years out of him.

Last thing I'll post on the Devils re: Hemsky.

You're delusional if you think Lou Lamoriello is going to trade an asset to pay an injury prone 5.5 million player when Grabovski, Jagr, Brunner, and Boyes are all better bets to help that team and none of these guys will cost an asset or 5.5 million dollars.
