Even taking on Goose the Rangers would have enough cap room left to sign Stepan and Zuccarello, and could give us some offensive punch. Not saying I want to see it happen just thought it might make some decent message board fodder.
Do not want Richards. No way Poile gives up assets in a trade, pays Richards $9 mil this years, than hands him an $18 mil buyout next summer. I'd much rather go after Grabovski. It's encouraging to see we're in the hunt for his services.

Can we please just ship out spaling, smith, goose, leggy and one more so we can get Grabo and Mueller and pay Muller on the wing!

Grabo at like 4 or 5 and Mueller at like 900K

damn Poile, dont be done with moves. Smashville wants more!

I wouldn't mind Grabovski, but he's not really an improvement over Legwand.

Legwand has put up better stats the last 2 seasons, doubling him last season.

Why would Grabo be an upgrade? Legwand is far better defensively and pretty even offensively.

I don't think he's better than Fisher either.

You make a great argument, especially when you break down the stats. Leggy and Fisher are known quantities in the locker room too.

What do you all think Leg & Fisher make if they re-sign?

I'd bet Legwand at 3.5-4 for 2 years or so. Actually looks like a good number for both.

That's not bad at all - maybe up to 2 million in savings off the cap for the same caliber players. A nice bonus wit the cap likely going up too.

The stats don't lie and you're correct there but he was also left on the third and fourth lines in past years.

In games I've watched, he tries to shoot almost everytime the puck is on his stick between the circles. Might not matter anyway. Saw today the Canes are interested in one of Jagr or Grabovski.

Just remember that Grabovski was put on the expletive fourth line by his expletive coach, and expected to score expletive goals with expletive linemates.

Legwand has ALWAYS played in top 6 situations, with occasional, not frequent, success...

Not true at all. He's been bumped around as well.

Jets fan wondering if he has a good one-timer or does he use the wrister exclusively?

Legwand skated almost a whole season with Smithson and Ward and ALWAYS played against the Thornton/Toews/Crosby kinda' lines. Hardly top 6 situations or linemates. Yet, put up around 40 pts. Our last full season he put up .68/game; plus plays stellar D, kills penalties.... Grabo isn't gonna' give us that, and he's gonna' cost more.

If that's the case he may get PP time. Last year here's our list of right handed forwards with one-timers:

-
-
-
-

We went after Setoguchi for a reason.

I really like Hali, but he shouldn't really ever play on any team's PP, except for those occasions where the coach is trying to punish the scoring lines by sending the grinders out to finish off a man advantage. He just lacks the raw skill to be effective in that kind of situation.

You haven't seen the Jets PP have you? If all he does is sit in the circles and waits for a one-timer it's a massive improvement.

That's not really his game though. Most of his goals are from shots off the rush or garbage goals/hustle plays. I think his wrist shot is deceptively effective in certain situations, but he's not necessarily a fantastic shooter otherwise. He's definitely not the type to sit on the half-wall or off-wing and hit one-timers. He also seems incredibly adept at slipping behind defenders and getting sprung for breaks, despite not being that great a skater. Just an...odd mix really.

His best shot is a wrap around that he uses at least 3 times a game and to date has yet to score with it.

In all seriousness though he works hard along the boards when he is motivated and is a solid 4th line guy. Don't look for him to do anything flashy and PP time should not be considered imo.

Hali reminds me of Nigel Dawes when he played with the Thrash. He worked hard and has decent skill, but he really wasn't good enough for the top-6, and wasn't big or physical enough for the bottom-6. Kind of a square peg kinda player.

I'm still worried we don't have that one elite scorer. Most teams in the league have an elite offensive player. I mean just go down the list:

Anaheim - Perry/Getzlaf
Bruins - Eriksson
Sabres - Vanek
Flames - ?
Canes - Eric Staal
Blackhawks - Kane/Toews/Hossa
Avs - Duchene
CBJ - Gaborik
Stars - Benn
Detroit - Datsyuk/Zetterberg
Oilers - Eberle
Panthers - ? (Huberdeau in future)
Kings - Kopitar
Wild - Parise
Canadiens - Pacioretty/Plekanec
Nashville - ?
Devils - Elias (Did have Kovalchuk this past season)
Islanders - Tavares
Rangers - Stepan/Nash/Richards
Senators - Spezza
Flyers - Giroux
Coyotes - ?
Pens - Crosby/Malkin/Neal
Sharks - Thornton/Couture
Blues - ? (Tarasenko in future)
TB - Stamkos
Leafs - Kessel
Canucks - Sedins
Caps - Ovechkin
Jets - ?

So we are maybe in a select few of 5 or 6 teams in the league that do not have an elite offensive player. A common theme with all of those teams other than maybe the Preds, Coyotes and Blues is that they do not have playoff success or even reach the playoffs. The reason Preds, Coyotes and Blues do is because of our defence and goaltending. But that doesn't get you far enough in the playoffs. If you hope to win the cup then you need one or two elite offensive players on your team.

Vanek is certainly an option, but he will only be a rental and I would be hesitant to give up assets for such a player. Especially after bad past experiences with the likes of AK46 and Gaustad.

It seems as though Poile is going back to the 'score by committee' approach. Which could certainly get us to the playoffs, maybe even past the first round, but it won't win us the cup. For Poile's sake he has to hope Wilson or Forsberg turn elite pretty soon.

No, he does not have a one timer to speak of. His shot is very average overall.
