I'll be honest. I don't know/ haven't seen Horcoff or Peverley enough to know for sure but if I had to guess down the middle:

Seguin
Horcoff
Eakin
Fiddler

With 3 Scoring Lines

I think Cole really hates playing the left side but he might be forced to.

I like this, but isn't Cole a RW?

They might try it, but other teams will force Dallas into deepening the centre's position IMO.
We have 5 centers right now plus Benn? How much deeper can the center position be?

GMJN said several times he wanted to move Benn back to wing, but his words were then backed up by actions, specifically trading for 3 centers on July 4th.

Id really like to see Sceviour in the lineup. Its time for him to either step in or be an AHLer for his Dallas career.

Then just flip-flop Cole and Nichushkin, wasn't sure what side Nichushkin preferred playing and ideally would like to see him playing his stronger wing as a opposed to Cole. I think it would make an easier transition for Nichushkin to the NHL if he played on his dominant wing.

Deep is a relative term.

You know, I bet Horcoff could fit back into a 2C roll and really do well.

I don't know about that. Those that think Horcoff can still be a 2C, well he'll be 35 when the seasons starts and several seasons removed from top six caliber offensive production. Sure, some of it might be due to young guys usurping him, but like I said, he's 35 and was kind of a fringe top six guy even in his prime. Now, in a group that maybe doesn't have clear cut 2nd and 3rd lines with scoring spread out among the top nine, sure.

There's no question he was a top 6 talent in his prime; fringe in no way.

Whether he can still be that or not is questionable but I get the feeling he will definitely be penciled in to start the season as the 2nd line center. I would prefer he were on the 3rd but I think he starts on the 2nd.

DBD Staffers speculating what the lines might look like this year. Alot of possibilities but ultimately itis up to Ruff et al.

Those guys apparently are the top trafficked hockey blog on SBN, but they aren't very good at writing or prognosticating. They do put out **** tons of stuff though so at least there's that.

Tyler Dellow goes into some detail defending Horcoff here http://www.mc79hockey.com/?p=6211, he was a legit 1C in his prime and his production declined at the same time his quality of teammates nosedived.

So for opening night:

Benn-Seguin-Cole
Whitney-Eakin-Nichushkin
Roussel-Horcoff-Chiasson
Garbutt-Fiddler-MacDermid

Dillon-Gonchar
Goligoski-Robidas
Connauton-?

I'm not too sure on who will be the 6th defenseman while Daley is out.

My guess would be Oleksiak being that sixth defenseman. I would also say that MacD and Garbutt both wouldn't be in the lineup (Garbutt the more likely of the two). Florida doesn't have enough fighters in their lineup and there isn't enough of a rivalry between the two to have both in the lineup. Sceviour or Ritchie would be in MacD's spot IMO.

"Benn-Seguin-Whitney
Chiasson-Peverley-Horcoff
Nichushkin-Eakin-Cole
Roussel-Fiddler-Garbutt/MacDermid"

whoever did that one doesnt seem to pay any attention. 3 players out of position in the top 6.

That third line looks a lot better with Horcoff on the left and Raptor Jesus in the middle IMO. Horcoff is still a good player but too slow for center, and Roussel, while an excellent hustle player, doesn't have the requisite skills/hockey sense to make the most of what Chiasson brings.

I would like to see Chiasson on the 2nd (whitney chemistry) and Nuke on the 3rd, but I worry about Nuke getting too "do-it-all-myself" from playing with lesser players. Tough call, could go either way.

I think Oleksiak has to get the nod, at least to begin with.

Great to hear Gaunce cleared waivers, not that I expected him to get claimed anyway. He'll be able to go up and down as needed ... no issue.

Interesting guy on waivers in Ryan Jones. I think Dallas passes, and I'd hate to see him push Colton Sceviour out of spot.

That said ... and I wouldn't hate having him the mix. I think it's likely Dallas rotates wingers on the bottom, and I'd rather see Roussel, Sceviour, and Jones rotating those spots than Roussel, Sceviour, Garbutt/MacDermid.

I don't think I'd claim him though. If he clears, and EDM still wants to get rid of him, make them take Tristan King so you aren't wasting a contract spot.

No thank you to Ryan Jones. That guy is terrible and has no business on any NHL team.

He's basically a bigger Steve Ott.
