I'd say so.

Assuming the terms are as predicted and it's a two-way, it's a low risk, high reward signing. As for those who are asking why Poile wasn't able to get anything for him, it's quite obvious that he had no trade value in the eyes of 29 other teams, judging by it's taken him a week to get signed by a new team and he's only getting a two-way.

Blum played mostly on the left side in the NHL correct? Partner was Klein for the most part?

On top of that tweet, his old teammate and roommate just tweeted him congrats on signing with Minnesota and Jon retweeted it. It's confirmed.

It's not all up to the Leafs. They very well might have called him already (I know Vancouver has rumored interest) but the player has a say too. If the Leafs even had interest Blum doesn't necessarily have to sign with them. Team, location, terms, and preference all factor into a decision. Could very well be Toronto was not his destination choice for any number of reasons if they even had interest at all.

Seems like a real locker room cancer

Anyways, zero risk move for the Wild. A RH shot defenseman that's only 24 and has proven capable at the NHL level. It wouldn't be the first time a guy gets into a new environment and finds his game again. On the other hand, Blum wouldn't be the first guy to see his game simply not translate to NHL caliber hockey.

As for the Wild, outside of Suter and Brodin, there's a lot of question marks on that back end. Scandella/Stoner/Prosser all need to prove they belong imo. I think Ballard will bounce back, and Spurgeon will be fine so long as he doesn't get top 4 minutes even strength. But doesn't hurt to send Dumba back another year and see what player you get in Blum.

Seriously? You have Cody Franson, Fraser and Gunnarson to sign still and you're wondering why the Leafs didn't go after him? Priorities, perhaps?

I like this kind of signing 7 days a week: yeah, some Preds fans say he's turd, but if it is indeed two-way, wow!

Pretty nice asset to add for free, especially for a team up against the cap.

Low risk / high reward.

Plus: Anything to get Stoner and Prosser down the depth chart.

Well on one hand if anyone can give a good lowdown on Blum it'd be Nashville with their familiarity of him. On the other hand they may be a bit biased on the negativity of Blum. As he was their 1st round pick and ended up being a bust for them. The fact that Blum is settling on a two-way contract indicates to me that there weren't any straight up NHL offers for him. Hey change of scenery can do wonders for a player as well. I like the signing, as there is basically no risk involved.

This. Also, its nice to actually have a competition in camp for roster spots. Not sure if the Wild ever had that.

I don't think we're that bitter over him being a bust, he was a late 1st in what ended up as a pretty terrible draft, so par for the course. He just never delivered on the promise he showed that first season. Then he pouted about being sent down to Milwaukee, and then failed to grab a spot that was easily his for the taking for the past two seasons. I hope he's able to turn it around. He definitely has the tools to be successful, but I've begun to doubt he has the toolbox.

I didn't mean to imply bitter. Just fans in general can be a bit harsh when 1st rounders end up pooping their pants. We are definitely no stranger to 1st round disappointments here. I'd list them, but I don't want to risk carpal tunnel.

Small 2-way deal... low risk medium reward type contract/player. Good signing.

I still think Blum can be a good player in the NHL. Just needs to sort himself out and not be so cocky. He does have pretty good offensive ability but I would think he'd need to be paired up with a pretty physical d-man because he is not physical AT ALL. If you watch him in the playoff series against Anaheim a couple years back you will see that the guy can be real good.

Blum was an inconsistent player for the Preds who showed flashes of greatness a few years ago. With the talent the team has now on D there just was not a place for him there anymore. He's still young and perhaps he can turn it around with a change in scenery.

There was (and is) a section of Preds fans who still think Blum is this fantastic player and are angry that Poile couldn't trade him for like 3 1st round draft picks. It is kind of funny these same people would always throw his name in there for virtually any proposed trade with another team.

Confirmed. Blum signed to a 1 year, 2-way deal.

I'm a bit surprised Blum couldn't find a 1-way deal somewhere.

Because we don't need him? Rielly is a much better alternative if the Leafs are looking to add another offensive D to their lineup.
