Does anybody wonder if the Flyers went with Morin because they have Ghost, Gus, Streit for the foreseeable future. Seems like Morin is going to shade to the shut down Dman side based on some early evaluations.

i think they went with morin because he's 6'6, he's physical and he's an above average skater... he has the skills to be a very good shutdown d-man and 6'6, that's a rare player

Barring any serious injury or just a total crap out bust, I think worst case scenario is Luke Schenn, best case scenario is Luke Schenn with some solid offensive skills, maybe like a cross between Schenn and old Meszaros from his Ottawa days.

Right, so if you pair that up with the offense that the Flyers will hope to have out of those 3 other guys, you can kind of see why they may have slid that way.

at 6'6 thats such a huge advantage over a guy thats 6'2, we're talking around 4-6 inches in reach,4-6 inches in stick. that's a huge advantage

Oh I totally get the pick. I have no problem with it. I would have preferred Ristolainen or Nurse, but they weren't there. After that I think Morin was just as good a pick as Zadorov, Pulock, Morrissey, etc.

I think they liked Morin's upside more than anyone else available at that spot. The Flyers are notorious for drafting who they think is the best player available in the first round. Laughton in 2012 is evidence enough to support that. The last thing they needed at that point was another center, but Homer and company viewed him as the best player to take there.

No doubt they go with those other 2 guys.

Morin = Pronger Doppleganger

Watch the clips, his posture and skating style are so like Pronger it's scary.

Someone with some editing skill could no doubt put a couple clips together.

A huge, mobile, tough, talented kid like this is always worth the very slight risk. If you saw the photos from the Trial, he's got some muscle definition already too, and he's not 18 yet.

I think we drafted a gem, and many others in the hockey world agree.

He's going to have to develop some generational hockey sense if he wants to ever get to that level. I think he is what he is. He's a big mobile guy who's defensive game is already solid, but they're hoping his offensive game develops. If that happens, he can become a top pairing guy, but to say he's a Pronger doppleganger is crazy.

The guy selected at number four this year should be the guy that garners those comparisons.

One of the first things I noticed was the skating posture. He's pretty efficient for a big guy and the mean streak is just something that's tough to pass on when combined with the 6'6" frame.

He should probably skip the cigarettes, I don't want him banging up his lungs.

A cigar ought to do.

Agreed. Preferably chocolate. And a refreshing glass of orange juice, along with The Hockey News for literature.

Cigars are lame. Inhale or go home.

Better yet, give the kid some miracle grass. Maybe he can get hemp seed oil from Riley Cote. Get them proteins.

If Morin is a Pronger doppelganger, what does that make the best defender in the draft, Nikita Zadorov? Bobby Orr?

Whoa, what?

I don't think he was saying Morin is a Pronger clone, though. I think he just meant in terms of style, they are very similar, which I don't think is too far off. At least I'm hoping he wasn't suggesting that Morin has Pronger's brain...

I personally think Morin's best-case scenario is Pronger, and his worst is AHL-fodder. He is that risky a prospect. Gotta remind myself, though, there was a time when Timonen wasn't even worth signing. Morin has 10x the advantage Kimmo had at the same age; it's up to him to develop those abilities.

I agree with however said he's a Tyler Myers if his offense comes along or a Darian Hatcher if his offense doesn't.
