Hitting can get you the puck, keep the other team from moving the puck, bang up players, wear down defenseman, or draw someone into a penalty. Most 4th liners aren't going to be scoring if they have the puck anyway, so it's important for them to be able to keep the other team from scoring. That's something Rinaldo still has to work on, but his hitting and really his skating, which allows him to hit, will be very useful if he's able to turn himself into an effective penalty killer and defensive player.

Rinaldo is a giant pain in the ass on the ice for the opposition. He can skate, he can hit, he can shoot and pass. He knows his role and plays it well.

Rinaldo is not sitting. He played his role perfect last year. He brings something unique to the lineup.

If Rinaldo controls himself and avoids dumb penalties and suspensions then he is an incredibly valuable player to the Flyers.

You can score without having the puck or touching it with the stick. Just ask Simmonds!

As long as Lavi is around Rinaldo will have a roster spot. This is not to say Rinaldo, at least last season, didn't earn his spot outright by first being one of the most consistent players on the Phantoms and then carrying it over to the Flyers. With less actual fighting in the league, agitators like Rinaldo are more valuable than the naysayers like to admit. Rinaldo keeps the opposition honest and distracted and last year he got more consideration from the refs and Rinaldo was the catalyst for a lot of Flyers power plays.

Haters can continue to hate Rinaldo but he's come a long way....with him, Cousins and the Ghoul....teams are going to go all postal against us like Pittsburgh...

Rinaldo is turning into everything we hoped Carcillo would become. Unfortunately Rinaldo doesn't have Carcillo's offensive capabilities, as limited as they were.

Sooo whats up with Laughton? Future NHL 4th line Center? 3rd line winger or career AHLer?

At this point, best can scenario is 3rd line Center or LW. More likely outcome is 4th line Center or LW. He has been a dissapointment but his development was also botched by Berube early on. He also sustained a pretty bad concussion that seemed to stifle his aggressiveness.

They have him working on the defensive side of the Center position in the AHL right now. The Phantoms are the top team in the AHL and a deep playoff run with important defensive assignments could do wonders for Laughton and his chances at making the Flyers or another team next season.

He skates well and has a great release on his shot.

Having him focus on defense will help him in a number of ways.

It'll allow him to make the team and get PT in a 4th line role.

It'll develop his full game, the offensive skills aren't in question, but they're not good enough for this team if he's a turnstile on defense.

It will take pressure off Laughton, because if he starts in a defensive role, he doesn't have to press, when the inevitable hot streak comes he can move up the food chain to the third line and try to stay there. Diminished expectations will allow him to find his game rather than force it.

He is kinda like Jurco with Detroit. Tools are there, has great numbers in Ahl but Nhl it's a different story.

Laughton seems to be leading the Phantoms in ES points per game while being used as the shutdown center. That's pretty good.

Whether he will be an NHL regular again or be better than he was in 14-15 and 15-16 remains to be seen.

I've been very happy with how he's played every time I watch the Phantoms.

He also started off extremely snakebit for a while. Tons of awesome chances to score but he was getting really unlucky to not pick up either goals or assists. Even the Phantoms broadcast team and radio guy mentioned it all the time.. and you know how much I respect the opinion of the media.

I went to the Phantoms game in Bridgeport last night. He scored a SHG on a 2 on 1 where he carried in, came down the left side and ripped a bomb top right bar down on Halak,

Also skated well.

I just skimmed a few pages and some of my favorite comments have nothing to do with Laughton even
