Good for Bergeron. One of my favourite players in the game.

Lots of positive comments on the signing, but I fail to see how it is a steal.

It's a fair contract. Past concussion issues maybe pose a risk to this long term contract. Good for him though for sure.

Actually he's still under his old contact for the upcoming season so he's making less than Iginla. Provided that Iginla hits all his bonuses. Iginla's actual salary is Under 2 Million.

Because 29 other teams would have paid him between 7.5-8. Maybe even more. That's why it's a steal.

Nice deal. This is about what very good players should get. +7.5 is superstar money.

Too much term given his history. Savard v2.0. Teams are being stupid with these max term deals for non-superstars. In a couple of seasons these contracts won't get handed out anymore once a few GMs get bitten by these contracts. I am not hating on Bergeron. He's a great player who I'd love to have on my team.

Surprised there's so many good feedback on that signing. As much as I love Bergeron, who's by far my favorite Bruins, that's a lot of money and years to commit for mostly a 60 points two-way guy, but especially with the kind of injury history he has. On a shorter term, I'd have no issues with that contract, but 8 years sounds too much.

If he's Savard 2.0 as you put it then he can be put on LTIR and it won't affect the Salary Cap.

Ask Bruins fans if they think that he's a superstar. He's a proven winner at every level. Olympics, World Championships, World Juniors & NHL.

That is the going rate now. Especially with the cap going up, I don't for see that being a problem

Lucic is getting paid 6 next year, there's no way Bergy was going to take anything less.

Bergeron's worth goes well beyond point totals. The areas he excels in, away from the score sheet, are areas that most NHL players can't master. If ever there were a "complete" player, Bergeron is it.

As for the term, it is what it is. Injury history isn't as much of a factor as most are alluding to. Bergeron is playing the best hockey of his career. Past injuries haven't slowed him down...or current, for that matter (SCF is prime example).

As for being "one hit away" from retirement? That can be said of any NHL player (previous concussion or not)

Nah, you are hating on Bergeron. I dont know what else he has to prove to be a "superstar" to hf posters. GW/GT OT goals/set-ups several times this PO, would be a 70+ scorer every year on a different team with a different role, has a cup, just about every international medal, a Selke, runner-up to Selke this year. I knew he would take a discount to stay because he is a class act, and yes do NOT pretend it's not a discount. And yes, my username does make me a little biased.

Any GM who would pay that much to Bergeron would need to get their head examined.
I like Bergeron a lot, great team guy, intangibles up the wazoo etc. but holy hell, he's getting overrated in this thread. $7.5-8 mil/yr for Bergeron? Give me a break.

While true, you need to keep in mind that 7.5M AAV would have only been 500k more guaranteed dollars than he got in this deal.

Current deal:
8 years, 52 million, AAV = 6.5m

UFA offer:
7 years, 52.5 million, AAV = 7.5M

Top 3 2way C in the game and anybody who says they wouldn't take him on their team in an instant at this price is lying to themselves.

It's been so long that you've seen a winner, you don't even know what it looks like anymore. It's not an accident that teams win more than lose with guys like Bergeron playing important minutes. Similarly, it's not an accident that Mike Ribeiro seems to be on mediocre teams a lot, and only makes decent playoff runs with Bergeron-type players in key roles (Koivu in MTL/Morrow in Dallas).

Points, points, points!!!!!

Best defensive center in the league and after these playoffs you could damn straight argue he's a top 10 C. Who knows how many point he'll put up with Marchand, who gets a year better, and Eriksson/Iginla? He's so much more than a 60 point player. As a Leaf fan, you see him 6 times a year, maybe more. You should know. If he didn't get a concussion this year he would have been PPG, while taking his second Selke.
