Darnell Nurse. Drafted to be a top pairing shut down defenseman. He is exactly what this team lacks, what this team needs, and is thus the 6th most valuable player to this franchise right now.
Gagner is an expendable player, because Grabovski and other potential 2nd line centers can be readily had on the market. Smid is a tremendous player but I think will be bested by Nurse. Klefbom also shows great promise, but again may not ever be the player that Darnell Nurse projects to be.
Well OP asks who would fetch the most in a trade, so there's nothing wrong with including prospects.
Off of this list though, it's between Smid, Gagner, and Petry.
Gagner probably takes the cake as a 2C who can generate offense and is still getting better (he's 23) is appealing to almost anyone. I like Smid more though.
A rare view that actually looks at what is inherent in the question of value.
There can be no doubt that Gagner is more valuable at this moment. I do think Gagner would elicit higher offer prices and this being fairly standard for offensive playres that can produce and play different lines and roles. Only shutdown D command optimal value. WE don't have any shutdown D.
Poor Gagner... poor Dubby... why am I still voting for Gagner? Dubby and him should have been up there by now.
Why DD ? Yes his save % is good . Why ? because team shoot lots on him from low chance scoring areas because it is his MO to give up soft goals . I bet his save % would be 20 points lower if teams did not shoot from bad angles or far out waitiing for him to let in a soft goal . I like DD but he has to be better
I would vote gagner cuz Kbombs not an oiler yet, and Smid just lays down on the ice in the slot when the opposing team breaks in on a rush.. (something the coaches have been trying to tell him not to do for a while but he always does it still... seems kinda uncoachable)
