Yes, if he`s EARNED. And by earned i meant played at least a couple of seasons in NHL. It doesn`t matter if he have drafted in 7th or 5th or signed in FA from Australian 3d league. If every prospect is allowed to choose whicheve rnumber he wants, it would be a real mess. A lot of players favorite numbers are in the place of #1-#40. So why the hell would we give them to any prospect in the system?
My bad if i misunderstood the ''players - as if only the Ducks roster'' with ''players - every player in the system'' terms.
We're talking about rostered players on the Ducks, Kalvin, and they do get to choose their numbers. Once a prospect has established themselves, they get to pick their number. The numbers they pick are whatever is available.
Prospects establish themselves at different rates. It took Fowler all of, what? 2 months? It took Bonino a couple of years. The end result is the same, though. They got to pick their number. Where is this mess you speak of?

That is what i was saying - you have to earn it to wear that number. I was arguing against giving every available number to an unprooved prospect who won`t be in NHL in few years. That is what i would call ''a mess''.
