Based on Couture's recent extension, it seems pretty fair if not favorable for us.

Wait 6M is too much for Duchene but Tavares at 5.5M is the best contract in the league? I never realized 500M could make that big of a difference

You also need to take into account the fact that JT is the superior player between the two.

Tavares signed @ 5.5 for the next 5 years is a terrific deal.

Taking into account Duchene's last contract he's actually making less money after their ETC.

Tavares makes 5.5 over 6 years
Duchene made 3.5 for 2 years than 6M for the next 4 years(if the rumor is true)= 5.17 average.

I still think Tavares is overrated. He's a good PPG player, but I'll never understand why some people put him in the top 5 best players in the league category.

Yeah and you might also want to take into account that Duchene plays on a 3.5M contract next year and has already done the same this year.

And how the hell is Tavares the going rate here? He will have the best contract in the league in a short amount of time.
Heck. Eberle and Hall got the same 6M a year last year with 2 less years of service and without ever taking any bridge contract.
How is that overpayment?

I just pray that it is atleast 6 x 6M.
8 x 6M would make me very very happy.

If you think Tavares is overrated then I would have to believe that you actually have never watched him play. JT could've and should've signed a contract where he would be getting more money per year. He was offered a long term deal and he took it. He believed the Islanders were dedicated to him and he wanted to stay long term. He has a no movement clause as well..... If Duchene gets a contract for 6M over 6 years it will be a great deal for him and the Avs. In 5/6 years he would probably be making less then his actual value based other players contracts and a rising cap....IMO.... Islander fans believe JT is underpaid for what he brings to the ice every night. Hopefully Duchene signs a 6 year deal and stays in Colorado for a very long time...I'm an Islanders fan and I hate the comparison between these 2 players. I would've been fine with Duchene but I preferred JT... I'm wondering if Tampa should've grabbed Duchene at #2

I'd expect Colorado to offer about 4.5-5.5 million AAV.

Forsure, I'm just saying it's not really fair to say "Duchene shouldn't be paid more than Tavares" because Tavares is on a bargain deal.

That's my whole point, the market was set with the Skinner contract. Hall, Eberle, Seguin, now Duchene. I wasn't saying that Duchene at 6m is too much, I'm just saying that the 500k difference is considered a "great deal" because of the term and because of the quality of player. We all know Tavares could've commanded at least 6m.

Yeah no way Duchene takes under 5M. It will be closer to 6M and I don't mind that at all. Pay the guy his money. He could have gotten a Tavares type contract but he takes the bridge deal and certainly proved he deserves his money.

I think I read on the Avs board that it was in 3 years (basically after 2 years into a 4 year deal if thats what he signs)

Good for the Avalanche to lock him up. He's an outstanding young player.

Agreed, but in all fairness Garth Snow has a second job as Jedi Knight.
