Sign with Anaheim. Reunite the old kid-line from the 2007 Stanley Cup.

I wish the oil would sign him, never know what Eakins could do with him, maybe he motivates him enough and even thugh Penner copped a lot of flak from fans he enjoyed EDM by all accounts. And we could certainly use his size even if he doesn't use it so much.
Top nine of:
Hall - Hopkins - Eberle
Perron - Gagner - Yakupov
Penner - Gordon - Hemsky

There would certainly be plenty of scoring.

I can see him staying on the West coast though. Maybe waiting for a bigger money offer.

Not saying we need Penner necessarily but...

Wut?

We've added Frattin who is 6'0", and that's it... Where is this "ton" of size you speak of?

Why would Lombardi want to resign Penner?

Re-signing him last season was probably a mistake. They could have gotten a quality player to fill that spot.

I don't get why everyone says ZERO chance. Mike Comrie signed in Edmonton after his nasty departure with Kevin Lowe. Never say never!

Ideally a big winger that could be a 2nd/3rd line tweener is likely on Craig MacTavish's list. Penner said he did like it here and this is where he grew the most as a player when he was traded.

Unable or unwilling? As much as I like the guy (and I do), he isn't the player he used to be.

Too much chance of an injury. He needs it in bottle form right on the table.

His agent said that MacT was not interested in Penner.

That could change, but it's not likely.

The poster you quoted brought up Comrie and Lowe patching things up. That was different. It was over money, and it got personal. Sure, there were other on-ice questions too, but Comrie did play elsewhere, and play well. MacT vs. Penner is more a question of philosophy. MacT wants players who are self-motivated. He hired a coach who uses the phrase "compete level" in every second sentence that comes out of his mouth. Then MacT went out and got Ferrence, Gordon, and Perron, players who are all known for being highly competitive. He doesn't want a guy like Penner. It's too bad; I like Penner and I think he'd fill a hole in the Oilers' roster, but it's clear to me that MacT has zero interest in him. Penner's agent just confirmed that today in his interview, but I think the we knew this already.

Toronto IMO needs another forward, whether it be a 2nd liner and puts clarkson on the 3rd line or a 3rd liner and clarkson can play on the 2nd line. With penner I think the lineup would be:
JVR,Bozak,Kessel
Penner,Kadri,Lupul
Kulimin,Bolland,Clarkson
Mclaren,McClement,Orr

Solid linup that is capable of making the playoffs and perhaps make noice in the playoffs if the defense can play solid. Every line has a shooter and a net presence. That 3rd line could be a very good shutdown line capable of playing against all other teams top lines
Toronto has no cap space. $9.5 million left and they need to sign Kadri, Franson, Gunnarsson, and Fraser. You have to leave some breathing room for injuries through the season, so let's take down to $9 million cap space. You're looking at $2.25 million average for those four RFAs, and I can make arguments for Kadri and Franson making $4+ million each. Toronto is going to struggle to get their RFAs signed, and my bet is that Franson gets traded. You can say trade Liles all you want, but I don't think too many teams are looking to take on that contract.

It's crazy that he was signed for over 3M last year. How does he get paid so much?

Good, didn't want him back. In the postseason he elevated his game and was a tank along the boards, but his goal scoring touch is gone and he might be the laziest regular season player I have ever seen.

Funny how Stauffer plays these silly games. He obviously knows the 4 teams yet he is compelled to phrase things this way.

He'd be a fit in Toronto but the Leafs aren't in any position to hand out much money. Lots of RFA's to sign-Franson,Gunnar,Kadri etc will tie up much of the cap space we currently have.

Just because he's from Manitoba?

They don't need him. I'm fine with Tangradi as #3 LW considering they've got Ladd and Kane in front of him. They've also solidified what was previously a gaping hole at RW. Keep in mind they've got 3 big RFAs to sign that'll take most of their remaining cap space.

La picked up Frattin and with Tanner Pearson pretty much ready for a taste of the nhl ( he did play a playoff game which to me shows that management think hes ready) we no longer need Penner. I will be the first to say thanks for being on the cup winner and all you did while u were here and wish u best in your future indivers

Penner will be really damn lucky if he gets more than $2M.
