Most of the Pettis thing is just fight buildup anyway. Now you have a built-in storyline regardless of who wins between Henderson and Grant.

I'd do the same thing if I had earned a title shot (for a second time), the opponent was someone I'd already beat, and the fight was happening in my home town. I wouldn't care if someone had already been named the new top contender just because I'd originally planned to drop down to finally get a title fight.

LAS VEGAS Anderson Silva hasn't been shy about saying he's interested in a fight against boxer Roy Jones Jr. And the buzz around that potential may reach a fever pitch this weekend.

UFC President Dana White on Thursday told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) Jones will be the UFC's guest on Saturday at UFC 162 in Las Vegas and that the two are "talking."

White didn't elaborate on just what "talking" entails. Could that mean an MMA bout between Silva and Jones? Or, perhaps less likely, a special boxing match between the two? The specifics are up in the air. But that White admitted he's talking to the boxer is a step in the right direction.

II would buy that card if it was only three fights.

Henderson vs Pettis at UFC 163. Grant is out.

Quote:
Benson Henderson and Anthony Pettis will meet again, but this time the UFC lightweight title will be on the line.

MMAjunkie.com today learned from sources close to the fight and subsequently confirmed with UFC President Dana White that Grant has been forced to withdraw from the contest and Pettis has agreed to step into the open slot.
http://www.mmajunkie.com/news/2013/0...son-at-ufc-164

This could end up being the better fight but I wanted to see Grant fight for the belt. He earned the title shot. I'm usually not into all the conspiracy talk that comes up but this one seems a bit fishy since this change was rumoured a few weeks ago and Pettis has been asking for this fight in Milwaukee.

Forced to withdraw from the UFC or injury....? Will be an awesome fight. I seriously hope Pettis KOs Henderson.

I'm with you guys. I didn't like him campaigning for the fight when Grant was still in but now that he's out, I hope Pettis wins it.

Fishy as hell and way too convenient for Pettis, but I agree, this will be a great fight.

When Henderson was first on the rise to the UFC belt, I didn't really dislike him at all. But something about him just really rubs me the wrong way. And it doesn't help I think he's basically lost every fight for the title.

TJ Grant ‏@TJ_Grant 22m

Thanks everyone for your concerns. I am healing from a concussion I suffered in BJJ of all things. I hope to be back training very soon

**** I'm with you guys, let's go Pettis! Not that I don't like Hendo...just like Pettis's explosiveness, he's winning me over as my favorite fighter.

I had him losing two of the title fights. IMO, he won the first one against Edgar and he clearly beat Diaz but I thought he lost the second Edgar fight and his last one against Melendez.

I thought he lost the rematch to Edgar. Melendez fight was super close but I thought he won.

Dana was talking about how Pettis won't be able to heal in time for UFC 164 some time ago ...

I think they flew him in to see their doctor in Vegas recently because Pettis' was saying he was told three weeks recovery or something and Dana was hearing 6 weeks. Totally reeks of conspiracy, but at least Pettis is deserving of this title shot.

Am I crazy for thinking this was a work? Just seems too perfect with Pettis pulling out against Aldo and then the fight's in Milwaukee. It's probably not but I wouldn't be shocked.

Yea really, Pettis and Dana were told 6 weeks by supposedly the best knee specialist in the country. This after Dana was making fun of Pettis's doctor who said 3 weeks.

miraculous recovery?

So excited! I've been waiting for this fight since the first one and now it just so happens to come at the first UFC event I'm attending. Unreal!
