i don't think speed alone will benefit the PP. MDZ has a natural, uncanny ability to generate offense that no one else on the defense can imagine to do imo.

Staal comes back, he comes back with as clean of a slate as Skinner can and as far as the rest of their careers go in terms of injuries, Staal is much stronger and smarter and better in his overall ability to avoid (unnecessary) injuries.

I honestly think Carolina would make the trade, and until proven otherwise Staal was far from damaged goods.

Well they were reportedly looking for a top 4 defensive dman at the draft and got one in Sekera. I think that should hold off the Staal to Carolina trade rumors, but I still expect him to go there as a FA.

'Ability to avoid injuries'

Gets shut down after playing 10 mins in a playoff game.

I think it's clear which player is more damaged/injury prone than the other.

1) Pretty sure that's not what he meant
2) It was 17 minutes

That was more Staal just saying he wasn't up to playing at that point. One he heals (by all accounts he will) he's back to being a top 4 shutdown guy

from words out of his mouth, he said his eye will never be 100%.

the point is Skinner is at least twice more prone to injuries than Staal.

Anyway I don't think Rangers have any plans to move Staal anytime soon

a lot of speculations, we won't know considering how conservative the Rangers/Torts were about discussing injuries in length. I believe it wasn't reported he was rushed, just speculation.

If he wasn't rushed, are you suggesting that he was injured again in the game?

but this isn't true as Staal's missed more games due to injury on two separate injuries.

Who knows?

I'm sure the medical staff cleared him to play. Maybe he further re-aggravated the injury?

The injury to Staals eye was a fluke and you cannot even argue it, he said himself his eye is basically at the same level and his previous concussion isn't a problem anymore

Would Staal's eye not being 100% be any different than a player not having 20-20 vision? Genuinely curious

Indeed. Are people really trying to suggest that a slap shot deflection to the head makes someone injury prone? lol

Staal's eye injury was a freak accident.

Skinner's concussions of a product of him over-working / ragging the puck in the offensive zone, and refusing to pick his spots on how to smartly manage the puck / make moves in the transition game. And there's the fact that being listed at 5'11" puts his head right at upper arm/shoulder height for most NHL dmen.

It's impossible to know how Staal will recover and how potential sight issues could affect his health moving forward. But from a pure standpoint of which injuries are most likely to reoccur moving forward it has to be Skinner's, IMO.

I think throwing a visor on will help with Staal's proneness to being hit in the eye with slapshots.
