His coach says diving is ruining the game, and he's the biggest diver in the league, so yes.

He plays the game without honour or dignity.

All of that is true.

Marchand takes all of the most negative characteristics of each of those players, though, and rolls them up into one package. He is a piece of garbage.

It's sad that his style of play is successful. It's a good barometer for what is wrong with the NHL. When dirty, dishonest, whining, cheap-shot artists are successful in your league, you know it is time to change something.

As someone who knows a lot of people who grew up with him/know him well... yes. He totally deserves it.

He's a cheap little rat that has Chara and Thornton to fight his battles.

Posting the Salo hit should suffice - dirty *****.

Bruins fan saying yes. He's not a Cooke-level player that is looking to really hurt people out there, but he is absolutely cheap/dirty.

He's small time. More annoying than anything.

It's especially annoying that his nickname was stolen from Pat Verbeek.

I hate Marchand, the guy is a punk. That being said , would I love a guy who can score and drive the other team crazy? Yes, hell yes. But **** that guy

I would hate him if he wasn't on the Bruins, but comparisons to Cooke that people often make are stupid, he hasn't ruin anyone's career.

He's hated mostly because he's annoying but he's a GOOD, skilled player that can put the puck in the net. He's like my 2nd or 3rd favorite Bruin, being a Boston fan.

Marchand seemed to have cut out the diving last year

I've heard he was spoken to about this after the 2012 season and it seems to have made a difference.

Marchand wouldn't be effective not playing with Lucic and Chara on the team.

I don't think he is that desired. He is one step away from being hated on his OWN team like a Kaleta.

hahahahahahaha

I don't even want a source; I'd settle for an argument.

EDIT ON TOPIC - Marchand is a sleaze. He's gutless, he dives, he whines to the media, he has no respect. Lots of players fall into the "hate him but want him on my team" category (like Dustin Brown) but Marchand is just too far. He will be suspended more.

"Negative attention" is a very misleading term. Typically, when it is coming from opposing fans, it's an indirect compliment. As in the case of Marchand.

The guy is one of a dying breed of player who can be beat you with his stick skills and punish/annoy you while doing so. A few more of his ilk and a few less figure skaters would serve this league just fine.
Bobby Clarke was a cheap shot artist to anyone except a blindly loyal flyer fan. He was hated by other players. This is not debatable.

One of these names doesn't belong.
