The Swedish system is different from the NA system. Teams are entirely separate entities and there is promotion/relegation between the divisions. No farm teams.

If it were a loan he could've been recalled by Färjestad, but since this was a proper transfer he will play for Malmö this season.

He could be loaned, but not promoted in the typical sense. I doubt he'd be loaned, though. Malmo is his hometown, he came up through their youth system. He's there to help them win promotion to the top league.

I didn't remember reading it, but Calle Andersson officially transferred to Malmö. That's kind of disappointing as they're in the HockeyAllsvenskan. Had he stayed with Färjestad, he'd be in the Swedish Hockey League (formerly Elitserien). So he's basically in the Swedish AHL rather than the Swedish NHL.
According to a post on SNYRangersBlog he was one of the youngest players in the SEL at 18/19, the youngest on his now-former team Farjstad, registered 2 points across 38 games, and averaged 7 minutes a night. What's disappointing with him wanting to develop at his own pace, one he's comfortable with, rather than trial by fire? Clearly he wasn't ready for a more advanced league.

The post includes a couple quotes: One from The Hockey News saying "Andersson was killing it on Farjstad’s junior squad with 9 goals and 17 points in 12 games, but only had one point in 18 games with the big club."

In an interview with Blueshirts United, Clark said of Andersson: "When the big goal or big play is needed, he's doing it..He practices a lot with the big team..They're doing the right thing letting him play a lot, letting him handle the puck a lot, let him play every power play, every 5 on 5, kill every penalty, that's what we would rather see than sitting on the bench with the big team and that's what they're doing and we're happy with that growth." Sounds like he's coming along just fine.

Wow I had no clue this happened. Sucks for us since Calle could've played a big role on the SHL team.

He is coming along just fine. I never said otherwise. All the reports from our Swedish posters and from the European stories that I saw indicated he was just fine in his limited ice time. For about 10 games he was even on the second pair. I was hoping he'd get more of an opportunity with his SHL team this season. So the fact that he's not getting that opportunity was somewhat disappointing to me.

Don't know if this is the place but Thomas Spelling is returning to Denmark. He'll be playing for SonderjyskE next year.

Very disappointing. Hope that doesn't hurt his chances in development.

Basically means he now becomes a wasted pick IMO. Bust

The US WJC camp begins next weekend.

Quote:
The camp, to be held Aug. 3-10, will see Sweden practice and play exhibition games against teams from the United States, Canada and Finland. It's the first step in the roster makeup for teams taking part in the 2014 World Juniors, which runs from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5, 2014, and will be held in Malmo, Sweden.

Calle Andersson isn't on the Swedish team.

Brady Skjei and Boo Nieves are in the US camp.

That really surprises me and has me a little worried about his chances to be with the Rangers in the future. I like the guy. Hope he gets the right opportunities.

Nice writeup, but I closed the tab when you referred to the team as the Rags.

I didn't, but it sure as hell gave me a chuckle.

I think we're the only team that gets called our slang name casually.

The guy seems pretty high on Hughes and his defensive game which is a good thing to hear.

I have to admit that I never spent much attention to this evaluation camp held on a yearly basis. So I am not 100 on this, and I do t have time to do research, but just looking at the roster it seems very inexperienced. It seems like somewhat of a pre-try out roster. But at the same time, there are a couple of experienced players there too so I am not quite sure what to make of it. It's hard to see patterns.

In the end though, I am sure he is in the running.

Also, Ive seen quite a lot of Andersson. He is a decent prospect who is doing well while also obviously having a ton of potential to grow. He won't make or break this year no matter what (unless he had like a tremendous summer). I wouldn't be that suprised if he didn't make it, he is still very raw.

What to expect from Oscar Lindberg?

I have seen is name all over the place but realistically, what do you expect from this kid?

In the last ranking he is still projected as a defensive prospect, but I can’t help being amazed by last year’s numbers and the invite to the Olympic Camp (specially considering Alfie was not)

I think Lindberg will be a 3rd/4th line defensive/faceoff specialist in the NHL. Maybe 15g - 20a - 35p type of 3rd line upside with excellent defense and should win 50%+ of his draws.

I think Lindberg is going to be a very similar player to Ryan O'Reilly. Excellent defensively and on draws, plays with a nice edge, and can chip in ~55 points. Definitely very high on the kid.

im surprised andersson was left off the team. and i agree, pretty inexperienced defense compared to last years team. only 3 names i recognize from last years d.

this kid has a nice offensive upside to his game. i see him as perhaps the only real offensive dman we have system wide and his puck poise and calm demeanor with the puck in the o zone sets him apart from alot of our other d prospects who seem to be rather limited offensively.

he has a chance to play some pp down the road which opens another door for him. i like this kids upside. hes got something to offer with his skating, passing and hockey smarts.

being left off the lake placid team is surprising.

i always attend this tournament with the family and i was looking forward to seeing atleast one nyr swede there
