I don't think Vey/Pearson see much time at all unless we end up with another Voynov situation on our hands, where they obviously make someone expendable. That's an extremely low possibility for Vey, but if Pearson starts dominating at the AHL level, a guy like King could be moved to recover a draft pick and open up a spot. Pearson doesn't have King's size, but he's anything but small and his skill level more than makes up for it.

Interesting tidbit from the Mayor's interview with Dean Lombardi.

Lombardi on Forbort:

Posted this on the PGT but it belongs here too: Mark Morris did some great things with Toffoli in their short time together. The kid is a ****ing stud. I remember watching him a few times, specifically the Red-White game for Team Canada's WJC team and I thought he was awful. Lazy, bad skater, bad defensively, not physical. He's slowly gotten a better skater, was very physical tonight, and insanely defensively responsible compared to what I saw of him in the past.

Funny, I think his bad skating has always been *very* overstated. He looks like Carter v2 to me....

Right. He seems fairly fast and a good skater, but my god, is his stride awkward. I bet his skating mechanics have been driving people batty for a while!

I don't care how he gets there, as long as he finishes! I think us Kings fans can agree that we've always been short of snipers over the years. I love the combination of talent we have on this team. It seems like we have players that just slot in to the role that we need.

I don't. Tyler's skating was bad the first few times I saw him play in juniors. Bad. On the other hand, Carter can absolutely fly. While Tyler's gotten better, he still lacks that true top end speed that Jeff has.

According to German websites, the Monarchs have signed German goaltender Mathias Niederberger.
I hope he can show why he was one of the better goalies in the OHL this past 2 years.

Don't know much about him. But, it seems like a solid signing.

I guess this will mean Berube will spend another year in Ontario. I have to wonder if management has any confidence in Berube....He hasn't looked great in the little game time he has seen in the AHL. I was surprised last season when Berube was called up to back-up Jones (due to Mannino being injured). I think he only started 1 game in like nearly 2 months. Jones played several 3 in 3's. I was surprised how little Morris was willing to play him. I guess it payed off though, as Jones was phenomenal down the stretch.

Berube will spend the year in Ontario so he gets more than 1 game in nearly 2 months. In Ontario he'll be the #1 getting the majority of the starts.

Barrie Colts fan here. Just wanna let you know a bit about Niederberger, he is positionally sound goalie, quick reflexes and will win a game for you. The only reason the colts got to the OHL final this year was because of Niederberger. In the conference final he outplayed Malcolm Subban and should have been goalie of the year. So far in his career he has not been noticed, hopefully more people will notice this time. Great signing and I will be paying close attention to one of the better goalies I have ever seen in 10+ years of watching OHL Hockey

So if he gets called up, can we call him Niederberger King?

Sure, we called him the Burglar, but that works.

This is more of a 2013-14 question, but what do you see Manchester's defense looking like next season?

My guess would be the following: (not necessarily these pairings though)

Bodnarchuk - Campbell
Deslauriers - Forbort
Roach - Miller

Thought Bodnarchuk was a Ufa?

Anyone want to take a crack at the forward lines???

RFA. He was an UFA last summer only due to Boston not submitting a qualifying offer. Looks like he'll be back, but he'll have to clear waivers to get to Manchester.

The problem with doing AHL lineup predictions is that right now a lot hinges on whether the Kings make any other moves before training camp.
The NHL roster likely looks something like this:

Brown - Kopitar - Williams
Frattin - Richards - Carter
King - Stoll - Lewis
Clifford - Fraser - Nolan
Toffoli rotates in with King and Nolan as needed.

Doughty - Regehr
Voinov - Mitchell
Greene - Martinez
Muzzin and Ellerby/Schultz as spares.

Quick
Scrivens

A lot of what the AHL roster looks like hinges on whether Vey/Pearson make the Kings as another spare (which would only happen if one of the Ellerby, Schultz, Mitchell isn't healthy or is sent down.)

Manchester has question marks as well. Here's all the eligible players to my knowledge:

Forwards:
NHL deals: Shore, Vey, Pearson, Weal, O'Neill, Andreoff, Kitsyn, Czarnik, Kozun, Cliché
AHL deals: Sabourin, not sure if Yellow-Horn, Johnson are under contract still but they'd certainly help fill out the roster if needed.

Defense:
NHL deals: Forbort, Deslauriers, Bodnarchuk, Roach, Campbell, Miller
AHL deals: LoVerde or some other youngish d-man (Kolomatis on an AHL perhaps?)

Goalies:
NHL deals: Jones, Berube
AHL deals: Niederberger (rumored)

So perhaps something along the lines of:

Pearson - Vey - Kozun
Kitsyn - Shore - Cliché
Andreoff - Weal - Sabourin
O'Neill - Czarnik - Johnson/Yellow-horn?
Likely a player or two that needs to be signed to fill in as spares

Bodnarchuk - Campbell
Deslauriers - Forbort
Roach - Miller
Loverde/? as the spare

Jones
Niederberger

Berube in Ontario.

Not too far off tiger. You are right in that a lot depends on who makes the team. Manchester, IMO, may be in for a tough year. And BTW Kolomatis signed with Washington so he'll be in Hershey this year. I'd like to see Legein back, if even just on an AHL deal. He can play the PK and he's a fine bottom 6 player.

Totally missed the Kolo signing... Legein is definitely a guy I could see being signed on a AHL deal if he's willing. Sadly wasn't he the guy who basically quit for a year and "retired" though? I can't really see him remaining playing on an AHL deal if that was the case. You're right that he'd be a great fit as a spare or bottom line PK guy.

If I wasn't already worried about Manchester's season just by looking at the roster a bit, Mark Morris isn't signed right now. And he was extremely close to an NHL assistant coach job. And the man who hired him just left to go home. Do. Not. Like. I want Mark back.
