Corey Crawford next contract

His deal is up after next season, any word on the Blackhawks talking about extending him this offseason? If they do what kind of contract would you expect? 4 years 22 million?

Hahahha... no way he signs for $5.5... the Rask deal has him licking his chops I bet... $6M+ and maybe more if he can post another lights out season... some team will give him $7M by next summer I would bet

He's more Howard than Rask. If he's smart he'll lock down a position with Chicago.

$5.5 mil AAV for Crawford? No way.

He's not even above average starter imo. Certainly not top 10.

Look at what Bobrovsky got after winning the Vezina. No way Crawford gets even a sniff of that much.

Well besides the two Cups and being 3rd in Conn Smythe voting this year... sure he's more like Howard...

It'll be 4-5 years, for $20 million-$25 million.

If he wants more than that, he can have it elsewhere. The Hawks won't pay that much for Crawford when they wouldn't pay it for Niemi.

I'm sure he wants to make big money, but I don't know that I would pay him more than 5.5 even if I expect the cap to jump back to 70m very soon.

In my mind, he's worth about $4M-$4.5M, but my mind isn't taking into account the ridiculous contract inflation that is occurring right now. So in reality, $5.5M per is probably a decent discount. Someone in free agency would be willing to offer him around $7M per because "ZOMG he'z da Stanley Cupz winnaarzz." Free agency is weird like that.

He's worth 4-4.5m but I could see him getting 5.25.

Latest word was that with the FAs done they are going to try to work on Q's extension before anything else. Not really expecting an extension for Crow this offseason.

Crawford isn't near Rask but has more success than Howard. I think he'll try for closer to the Miller cap hit with as many years as the Hawks are willing to do.
His best option is in Chicago for long term success, but they do not offer even remotely the best chance at huge earnings.

I know the guy just won a cup and had an excellent season, but personally I think he needs to prove it one more year before he can make the big bucks.

Despite his numbers I still think he is a middle-of-the-pack goalie (I know, I'm a Wings homer, yadda yadda), and will always let in soft goals.

If he can go the Howard route and lock down a spot on a strong team at a reasonable cap hit, win for both sides.

CHI should try negotiating with him now.

If he has another season in the same ballpark as this past one (2.00-2.3 GAA + 920SV%+) he is going to be asking for 5.5-6M easy, and he might get it too...

I say 4.0-6.0, depending what happens on the goalie market from here till then (as for now 4.0-4.5)

Two reasons you can't pin a value on him...

1) He has only had 1 very good season, and even then Emery put up similar numbers. This year he should get 65 games with Khabibulin the backup. If he can put up a .917+ s%, I think he will be seen as an elite goalie.

2) The cap. There are some people saying it could go up dramatically next year, which would allow Chicago to pay more to keep him. If he doesn't stay with Chicago, he will have a tough time finding someone to give him the money he will want. Seriously, who was the last goalie to get a big deal by changing teams? Bryzgalov. Other than him? I can't think of one. Add in that next year's market could include Miller, Hiller, Halak, Dubnyk, Elliot and it is hard to see him getting a big contract from another team.

I highly highly doubt he will have another season like he did this year. Chicago went without a loss for 20 or so games and sure, Crawford had a hand on that. But I don't think he can pull that off again once CHI starts playing the eastern conference.

He is the same caliber of goalie as Howard in my opinion and should get a similar amount.

Hard to say what he is worth. He was one of the worst goalies in the NHL the season before - then one of the better ones this year. And now a Cup champ. I hope the Hawks are careful with this one.

They didn't have to pay Niemi because they had Crawford to fall back on. If Crawford walks who is their option?

I like Crawford a lot. I liked Niemi a lot too. However...there's entirely too much risk in goaltending. It is THE streakiest position on earth, even among hall of fame caliber players. Paying huge bucks to a goaltender like Luongo, Bryzgalov, Miller, DiPietro, and any other number of examples, can absolutely cripple a team when they don't perform.

When your goaltender ***** the bed it's a monster whammy. You're losing games, he's nearly impossible to trade because he's sucking and overpaid, you have little room to bring in any OTHER high caliber goaltender because you already have one taking up a spot on the roster and a ton of cap space, and they quite frankly just don't grow on trees. I'd much rather bring in fantastic defenders (also not easy) that will help keep down the number of bad situations my goaltender is put in.

I love big goalie contracts insofar that I always hope the goalie collapses so I can enjoy watching the ensuing calamity. Nothing beats supremely overpriced, horrific goaltending.

I've been Crawford's biggest supporter throughout his tenure with Chicago.. but in saying that, I don't think he'll be re-signed by Chicago. The Hawks simply don't believe in giving big-money to goaltenders. With Antti Raanta in the mix, I think the Hawks are likely to give him the reigns after this season.

Crawford's an above-average goaltender, and I'd love for him to stay in Chicago, but I doubt Chicago will want to have a goaltender making 4.5-6M per on their roster, not when they've won the Cup with a rookie and a guy making 2.66M; I just can't see it happening.
