Great news. I always thought we would have to wait until he replaced Homer to return. Very pleased.

Chris Pryor will remain with the Flyers Organization in some type of role, likely a promotion.

This is from last year...

Quote:
Now Hextall should be right near the top of any team’s search list for their next general manager.

He was a winner as a player.

He’s helped build a Stanley Cup contender.

While his focus right now is helping the Kings get two more wins, it’s also clear Hextall is ready to have a chance to have his own team.

“I’d love to, yeah, absolutely,” he said.

“I’ve got my beliefs. Everybody has got their own beliefs, I’ve got my own set of beliefs. You learn from a lot of people as you come up. In Philadelphia, Bob Clarke and Paul Holmgren and now with Dean, you take a little bit of everybody and you form your own identity.

“I’m a big will-to-win guy. I believe in the end, as long as your teams are close, the team with the more will to win is going to win. That would be my identity. I think it was my identity as a player and it’s still what I believe in.”

Didn't he hold the same position with the Kings? As far as I know he wasn't fired so why did he leave? I figured he wanted to join the Flyers organization at one point I just don't get the timing really.

This is probably Homer's long term replacement. I like it. I've never read bad things about his abilities.

He said this on the Flyers' web site just a few months ago...

Quote:
On missing Philadelphia: “That was my home for a long time. My girls still live on the East Coast and my son Brett played on the East Coast last year (with Portland of the AHL). I do spend a decent amount of time in Manchester (N.H.) with our minor league team, but I miss the Philadelphia area. I can’t say enough about the organization and the people in the organization. When you get down to it, an organization is just an organization but what makes it special is the people. From [Chairman] Mr. [Ed] Snider to Clarke to [Paul Holmgren] to everyone in that organization, it’s a special, special organization.”
And he likely has the edge to become the team's next GM.

I'm truly sad to see Hexy leave us and wish he didn't until it was for an actual GM job but I wish him all the best. He will make a great GM one day and I think he'll be replacing Homer for you guys at some point. As long as he doesn't take Mark Morris with him, I'll be happy.

Thanks for the approval cns . But I do think he will replace Homer in the future (if things go to **** basically).

His contract with the Kings ended this summer apparently.

I could see Homer moving into a role like Clarke and passing the torch to Hexy if he doesn't get fired this year.

Pryor will still oversee the Scouting department & handle the draft. I guess just a title change in store for him.

My normal lament would be "must we always bring back old former Flyers?" But I'm perfectly happy with this news considering he was instrumental in helping his former franchise win a cup.

He's closer to the job he wants, and we're closer to the guy who we wanted to be the next GM.

Clearly Holmgren misunderstood when Snider told him to get a goalie this offseason.

Thanks for this. I'm going to save it for the next time an idiot on the main boards says the Flyers treat their players badly.

This is excellent news. Definitely a long term replacement for Holmgren unless someone offers him a GM job first...but would he even leave Philly to take it?

I'm pretty shocked that he left L.A. for anything less than a GM role. I think this means he's Homer's long term replacement like the Clarke/Homer duo was before Clarke's resignation. I'd really love to get Homer back into some sort of scouting role, as he's an excellent talent evaluator. Good for Hexy who from all accounts has been excellent under Lombardi.

Love Hexy and love the move. He is a very capable hockey mind who will really help out Homer when making big decisions. Great move for the future and present of this team. Great offseason so far.

Lucky Flyers. He is awesome, behind many of the things that helped lead us to the cup. He'll turn things around in no time. Good luck to him and the Flyers!
