Too bad he couldn't have brought Bernier with him, but a welcome addition. Homer picks his successor, smart planning so he can retire in two years....

I prefer using save percentage to gauge how good a goalie was/is. Goals against is more reflected on the team IMO.
Or more importantly, comparing their performance to their peers.

Respectfully I understand all of that, I liked Hexty as a goalie and what he brought to the rink each night, my post was simply stating that I did not want him here as a goalie because of the " meltdown on this board" it would cause with his 2.95 GAA in the playoffs stat...Surely you know we have some SERIOUS stat geeks on here that go nuts over stats like that ?

You forgot Head Scout - Dave Brown

Im guessing Brown is pro scouting and Pryor is amateur scouting?
Paddock is Director of Player Personnel (glorified HR rep ?)
Hanrahan is in charge of the salary cap

Todays politically correct squeamish fan would be out raged by a player of his ilk or of the old Bullies teams if they were around today....I loved it and wish it were back in todays game ! Great video ! Thanks !

I agree that using save percentage is a better way to gauge a goalies abilities but in this case (talking about Hextall here) it's still not good enough cause of the whole era thing. This is pretty much the only way to go:

People sometimes forget that when Hextall was in his prime having a .900 +/- .005 save percentage was good enough for Vezina consideration. It's really not fair to compare numbers between different eras.

You are probably too young to remember Hexy taking the Flyers within a game of the Cup with a team decimated by injury. And the team they almost beat was the Edmonton Oilers at the height of their powers.
He isn't overrated... he was missed.

I'm pretty sure he was talking about being an executive not as a player.

I would agree to a point with that though I mean I saw a post on the main board saying Hextall was already a better GM than Homer. I don't think Homer's a top GM but that's a little too premature to say something like that. It's quite different working under someone than running your own show.

Dave Brown's former title was Director of Player Personnel and that has since been discarded with today's moves. I wouldn't be surprised to see John Paddock issued that job.

Brown is the head pro scout and the team of pro scouts answer to him (All Hill, Ross Fitzpatrick, etc.).

Chris Pryor controls the amateur scouting and the many amateur scouts, assigned to various regions, likely answer to him.

Hextall replaces Pryor as Director of Hockey Ops.

Barry Hanrahan remains Asst. GM with the salary cap being his primary function.

You lucky dogs. This is just what the Flyers need. This Kings fan is mighty sorry to see Hexy go. He was a fantastic assistant GM for us.

Find me another GM in pro sports who has a punk band named after him.

I love it.

I love that our starting goalie for many years was quite obviously a crazy person.

This is not exclusive to the AHL.
The reason all these kids were ready was because of the fantastic development Mark Morris has done. He was our AHL coach and a hire by Hexy. Morris' deal in Manchester is done, he hasn't been re-signed, and he was extremely close to taking an NHL assistant job. If Hexy takes Morris, I'll be pissed. Those two did great things. We can't lose both and honestly, Morris is more important to us than Hextall was. And Ron was VERY important.

Love this! Hextall has always been one of my top 5 Flyers and I still wear his jerseys to games. I can't wait till he replaces Homer as head GM.

Also, I can't believe all the disdain and butt hurt from some Kings fans over on their board.
