Mtl-la...

According to Eklund and his daily rumor mill MTL and L.A have been talking.
Now we all know that theres a 99.9% chance that nothing happens, that being said which trades do you guys think make the most sense for both teams?

A skill for size trade, I'm guessing?

Or just a trade for size?

Seriously though, I could see Jordan Nolan interesting the Habs. Seems like he's the odd man out in LA with Toffoli coming.

Any good left wingers we can get? 3rd liners. Throw in King and Ellerby? Size. Two big players.

we dont really have any prototypical 3rd line players, our forwards are all mostly small/soft top 6-ish players (except for pacioretty/bourque, i guess you can kinda count prust as a top 9 winger too).

the only LW'er we would be able to trade is probably bourque, but hes on a good contract and hes one of our few wingers that has size and plays hard.. so i dont really see us parting ways with him. other then that gionta is probably the only other winger i could see us trade, but hes a RW

tbh this is a pretty odd rumor to start, we aren't really good trading partners. this would only make sense if we got rid of DD(say to another team), we would then need to find a solid 3C

Odd man out? When Nolan, Clifford, and Lewis sign, we'll only be at 13 forwards. That includes Toffoli. We have 9 d on the roster too and it's very possible we'll only carry 13 forwards and go with 8 D. So no. He's not the odd man out.

Keaton Ellerby once hit someone. He's also 6'5" tall. Please?

LA seems to have a major surplus of both forwards and defenceman

You basically pencil all these guys in up front:
-Anze Kopitar
-Mike Richards
-Jarret Stoll
-Dustin Brown
-Justin Williams
-Jeff Cater
-Tyler Toffoli
-Matt Frattin
-Trevor Lewis
-Kyle Clifford

That's 10 forwards already, then you have Dwight King, Colin Fraser, Jordan Nolan, as well as youngsters knocking on the door like Tanner Pearson (name-checked by LA management as having a good shot at making the team); Linden Vey (likewise); Brandon Kozun and Andy Andreoff (Who some see as having a Kyle Clifford-like impact on the team whenever he gets called up). That's 7 guys for 2-3 spots.

On defence, you've got pencilled in:
-Drew Doughty
-Slava Voynov
-Matt Greene
-Robyn Regehr

Which leaves you with Keaton Ellerby (who was just re-signed); Jeff Schultz (who was just signed); Jake Muzzin (also just re-signed); Alex Martinez (ditto); the fresh-from-college Derek Forbort and the wildcard of Willie Mitchell (who recently posted a video where it looked like he was ready/able to play).

So, realistically, Colin Fraser, Jordan Nolan are almost definitely available. Dwight King might be. Kyle Clifford might even be, along with one of Jake Muzzin, Alec Martinez or maybe Willie Mitchell. There's a lot there that Montreal could be interested in, especially Clifford, King and Mitchell.

But, I would imagine it would be for picks or prospects in return because LA doesn't really need any more NHL-ready bodies.

First off, we don't have a surplus of forwards. Pearson and Vey have not earned a spot on the NHL team. If they do in training camp, then yes we will but we have zero problem sending both to the AHL and forming a dominant pair with likely Kozun on their RW. Andreoff isn't too far off and could MAYBE see some games this year but again, the AHL for him is fine. We do not NEED to move a forward. Period.

As for your D, Willie Mitchell isn't a wildcard. Dean Lombardi is on record twice at least now saying Willie is healthy for day 1 of camp. Period. End of story. And Kings fans are ECSTATIC about it. We run 1 shut down and 1 puck mover per pair. This is our actual D right now:

Doughty-Regehr
Voynov-Mitchell
Greene-Muzz/Mart
Muzz/Mart

Ellerby/Schultz

No one has actually earned the 6th and final D spot but honestly there's only two options. That spot will either be Muzzin or Martinez. Neither must be traded. Likely what will happen is the hot hand will play unless one takes the spot and doesn't give it back. When that happens, the other will be traded. One of Schultz or Ellerby is Manchester bound or traded before the season starts and there's no debate there. They're both redundant while the other is one the roster and neither really has a shot at the opening day roster. But it is likely we keep one as an 8th D and only keep one forward. Even doing this, there's still no forward surplus. Forbort is still VERY much a project. He's possibly still 2 years away.

At the end of the day, the Kings only need to make one move that is a guarantee and that has to do with Schultz or Ellerby. It's very possible that Ellerby is sent down to Manchester to try and resemble an NHL defenseman one day. We don't need to trade a forward unless Pearson or Vey forces themselves on the team and that's not a guarantee at all.

Clifford, King, and Fraser are probably available but DEFINITELY not Mitchell and probably not Nolan, as he's the only physical RW that we have. One or both of King and Clifford can be expendable as we have Andreoff probably ready to take one of their roster spots. Anyone other than Doughty, Voynov, Mitchell and maybe Greene on defense are probably available as well.

I would love me some Kopitar. Just a dream though...

MTL and LA dont seem like compatable trading partners... Would be really interesting to see what players are being discussed (if discussions are even happening) though.

Chances are he probably won't get traded, but we do currently have 9 dmen under contract, so you never know.

I'm thinking a 2nd ++ would work.

Islanders would interested in whatever big, physical d-men you might have available. Contract probably a concern, knowing Garf.

Yikes. No thanks. I don't even care about what the plus might be; Bennett is absolutely vital to the Penguins at this moment, as our only can't miss entry-level forward. Just not gonna happen.

And create more of a hole on LW? If he is traded it has to be packaged with a dman for an upgrade on LW.
