No, some team will sign a 57% faceoff man as depth before the start of the season.

I think a good portion of the guys who are left (Guys like Steckel, Radek Dvorak, Wade Redden, Tim Brent, etc. etc.) are probably going to have to start swallowing their pride and either sign 2-way deals or accept training camp invites. I suspect, with the cap going down, we might see a ton of training camp invites this summer.

You did not, but also did not mention that he went to LA via trades.

A lot of posters probably were not alive when this happened and might easily get the impression that he went to LA as a FA after "retiring" for a year.

The Ottawa Senators have signed centre Mike Hoffman one-year, two way contract on Wednesday.

The restricted free agent will earn $660,000 at the NHL level and $67,000 in the American Hockey League.

The 23-year-old Hoffman was the Binghamton Senators' leading scorer this past season before he suffered a broken collarbone just before the all-star game. He played three games with the Senators before re-injuring the collarbone and missed the last 12 regular season and first 10 playoff games. The Kitchener, Ont, native recorded 13 goals and 15 assists with the Binghamton this past season.

Hoffman was drafted by the Senators in the fifth round (130th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

Seeing Steckel last season, i can`t see him not getting the job.

I wasn`t so happy he was let to walk. He is no more than a 4th line center, but a pretty good one.

Another RFA re-signed

Quote:
The Calgary Flames announced today that they have signed defenceman Chris Breen to a one-year, two-way contract.

Breen, a native of Uxbridge, Ontario, played 60 games with the Abbotsford Heat in the American Hockey League netting three goals and adding four assists for seven points and 55 penalty minutes. He has 204 career games with Abbotsford and has accumulated eight goals and 18 assists for 26 points and 143.

Contract Terms: One-year, two-way contract US $577,500 / $80,000 per season.
I've been waiting for Breen's NHL Debut for a couple years now, at 6'7", 230 lbs, I'd like to see what kind of NHLer he'll become.

I could see the Bruins giving Steckel a pre-season tryout. Claude loves high percentage centers (for defensive zone draws especially), and Chiarelli loves to fill the roster with centers.
