Hmm Angry Beavers... That could work for an Oregon NHL team.

Still like the idea of Seattle Emeralds the best, even though I'm usually all about alliteration in team names.

Also wouldn't mind Seattle Americans to contrast with the Canucks.

I don't think "Metropolitans" or "Metros" is an option. With the amount of backlash to today's announcement of the Metropolitan division, including the obvious jokes generated, "Metros" is just not a good idea.

If the Metropolitans division name means it wont be resurrected for a team in Seattle that's a blessing. Seattle really does not need another team with a tired Space Needle logo. There are much better sounding names with history and local connections. "Totems" or "Bombers" please.

Reminder that the hockey hangout will be on July 29th from 7-9 pm at the angry beaver in Seattle.

John Barr of NHL To Seattle will moderate the hockey panel.

The hockey panel will include channel 13 q it up sports anchor Aaron Levine, as well former long time KJR anchor Mike 'Gasman' Gastineau who is currently host of Pearl Jam 24/7 on Sirius. More panelists will be announced.

Hosting the evening will be the guys from NHL Seattle and the Metropolitan Hockey Report Radio Show

They can easily remain the divisions if they need to.

Maybe the reason they went with a Metropolitan Division instead of an American Division is because Seattle will be called the Americans?

And the NHL used to have a Brooklyn/New York Americans team, so doubt that a brand new franchise in a different market takes up that moniker.

I'd like to see a team use Dragons as their nickname. Think of the awesome logo designs and marketing opportunities that would present.

Im not sure we ever addressed Seattle as a specific alternative in that process, but I think its safe to say were very intrigued by the Pacific Northwest generally, said Daly.

Going forward, I would expect that, to the extent expansion comes into the picture or relocation is needed, Im sure the Pacific Northwest is going to get serious consideration.

So Art Thiel has been added to the panel.

The Panel so far now includes Aaron Levine of Fox Q it up Sports, Former long time Sports Radio KJR host Mike 'The Gasman' Gastineau and former Seattle PI sports columnist Art Thiel.

Moderating the event will be John Barr of NHL to Seattle. Hosting the event is Todd Smith and Mark Miller of NHL Seattle and the Metropolitan Hockey Report show on KLAY

It is on Monday July 29th from 7-9 at the Angry Beaver. Apparently the Poutine is quite good.

If anyone is going, I'll be in my Seattle Thunderbirds Alternate jersey

Hit me up, I will most likely be the only Asian wearing a Seattle thunderbirds jersey in the bar!

I'll be playing hockey that night in Seattle. Sorry...

That panel is a potpourri of local media, etc. Where is the main hockey guy on the airwaves - Ian Furness...

E: I did run into the Gasman at one of the Canucks-Bruins finals games. His seats were right by mine at Rogers Arena

Yeah, that wasn't thought as well, I'm guessing they wanted to get one 'negative'. View point so we could get some good back and forth dialogue.

At least they didn't get Geoff baker, that guy shows contempt for the Seattle sports fan

Breakers might be a good name for Seattle. It was a name used previously in the USFL. The name Colorado Rockies of MLB was used previously by the NHL team which later relocated to New Jersey so there would be no reason that Seattle's NHL team could not revive a name used previously as well.

GSHL is the main adult rec league in the city. Play all over from Kent to Everett and a few spots in between. It's one of the largest adult rec leagues in the entire US. There are some arena run league on the north end and in Tacoma as well.

It was also the original name for the Thunderbirds, too..... the original name for when they first came to Seattle, that is.

I kind of thought the Breakers folded and the Thunderbirds were immediately ushered in. Of course, I was in the teen years in Portland when that happened; you know that drill.

The Breakers did declare bankruptcy. An ownership change helped save the franchise... and let's face it, the Thunderbirds have a much better logo and sweater. I actually think that's as iconic as anything else Seattle may dream up, since they can't copy from Portland all that easily this time.
