Well New Jersey just took a Major blow to the stomach. He's only 30.... Hopefully other Russians don't follow his example and leave I know Datsyuk considered going to the KHL but after he extended this year that seems Unlikley. Though I think Ilya may be back one day.
Dustin Brown signs a 8 year 47 million deal (cap hit of 5.875) and Glencross's contract looks amazing compared to it.
In the last 3 year years,
Brown has 140 points in 210 games for a ppg of .667
Glencross has 117 points in 186 games for a ppg of .696
Brown has 68 goals in those 210 games.
Glencross has 65 goals in those 186 games.
Brown is more physical than Glencross but not nearly worth more than double.
The cap hit is a little high, but acceptable. Brown was always going to be a bit overpaid after his last contract, which was widely deemed to be a well below market value.
But the term is brutal. By the time he hits 32-33, it's unlikely he'll be able to continue his physical style of play. By year 5 or 6 of this contract, I wouldn't be surprised to see his name pop-up as a buyout candidate.
