Mayor just tweeted that Mark Morris will be back. And now, I am very excited. Especially for all the players he hasn't worked with yet (Kitsyn, Miller, and a full year of Forbort). AWESOME news.

Excellent, good to hear that. After your post yesterday I was looking to see who was out there and it's pretty bleak for guys that would be decent AHL coaches right now.

When they signed Colin Miller? I think he is still unsigned.

You are correct, he is unsigned. Thanks for pointing that out.

His rights are still owned by the Kings for another year (or two) so he'll probably end up in Manchester on an AHL deal. I tried to seperate the guys whos rights were owned by the Kings and guys that had no NHL affiliation and I must have just thrown Miller into the list with the other guys under NHL contracts. My mistake.

I hope - and expect - that they sign him rather sooner than later. When Kolomatis is gone, there is no rightshooting d-man in Manchester (LoVerde is, but I don't know has he contract?).

If Kyle Clifford is really shipped out, I hope we get back tough right shooting d-man. Our top three RD are an excellent group (Doughty, Voinov, Greene), but after that are only longshot prospects (Miller, Ebert, LaDue), not depht at all.

An other question. Do you think that Shore is our second line center in Manchester, not Weal, who maybye is offensively more gifted?

There's no rush to sign Miller until this summer. The Kings retain his rights until at the earliest July 1st. In the meantime he can sign an AHL contract and play for the Monarchs without the Kings having to worry about losing his rights and without him taking up one of the 50 SPCs. One of the advantages of drafting older players out of the CHL.

LoVerde is no longer under contract. He signed a Professional Tryout Agreement back in November with the Monarchs which is only good for one season. The only guys under contract with the Monarchs to my knowledge right now are Scott Sabourin (two year deal, one year left,) and Matthias Niederberger (rumored to have signed a one year deal, but I've yet to see it reported in any official capacity...)

There is however a need for the Monarchs to pick up another forward or two and another D-man just to have some spares in case of call-ups, or injuries but those will likely be new names. I just used LoVerde, Yellow-Horn as place-holders on the previous page because the ones taking their places won't be known for another month or so.

Shore is probably the 2nd line center unless Weal outplays him. I'm sure there will be some line juggling but I think Shore is the 2nd best center on that team. Higher upside, better overall skill set. Weal's game is perfect for a 3rd or 4th line checking role and PK specialist in the NHL. Great speed, high hockey IQ, and nice defensive instincts. Shore has the higher ceiling, and has a much better overall game. I'd even argue that Shore is the more offensively skilled of the two players. So I for sure see him as the number 2 center next year.

Didn't see it posted anywhere ...

but Mark Morris is re-upped to coach the Monarchs

Quote:
Winningest Coach In Monarchs History Returns To Manchester

MANCHESTER, NH – The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have extended the contract of Head Coach Mark Morris, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.

Morris has been the bench boss of the Monarchs squad for the last seven seasons and coached the team to 290 regular season wins, 205 losses, 24 overtime losses and 33 shootout losses. Morris has coached the most wins in franchise history with 313 regular season and playoff victories. He also holds the record for coaching the most Monarchs games as he embarks on his eighth season in October. After winning the first playoff round in franchise history during the 2006-07 season, Morris has guided the team to the Calder Cup’s Eastern Conference Final twice, 2007 and 2010. Morris has also assisted in advancing many NHL careers and turning Monarchs players into Stanley Cup Champions with the Kings.

His production went down despite being a year older. He's not great defensively. I will be surprised if he plays in Manchester.

He is signed in Farjestad in the SHL for next season. Kings retain his rights through June 1, 2014 so they will likely see how that season goes and then make a decision on signing him or not.

With news coming out today that Colin Miller has signed his ELC (yay!), it looks like he's officially on board for Manch this season.

IMO, the Monarchs should follow the Kings' lead, and pair a youngster with a vet.

Bodnarchuk / Miller

Forbort / Campbell

Roach / Deslauriers

some scrub

Wow, that D is awful. Only really 2-3 guys with NHL potential.

I don't think it's bad at all but it will be dependent on some rookies performing well. Jeff Schultz (or Keaton Ellerby) might join them too.

Id argue all 6 have nhl potential.

And Kings fans have been spoiled for quite some time with ahl teams with 14-16 guys with nhl potential its going to start coming down now with a contending team and less prospects.

And you've seen how many of these guys play to make that statement?

This. Just some have lower potential and likelyhood to hit it. But I think all can be NHLers for sure.

I think that D will really struggle though. Forbort, Miller, and Roach would all be rookies, no Kolo, not good.

Is Roach going back to The Hitman for his 4th year?

Next year, (14-15) Manch will be adding Gravel and possibly Ebert.

The Monarchs are taking fans votes on which old Kings jersey should be used for LA Kings night in Manchester.

and yes... the burger king jersey is an option.

Justin Johnson signs with Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

Do the Monarchs look to bring on an enforcer or go with Andreoff and Sabourin?
